If you are getting this error message, then the hardware has already failed and will need to be repaired. Look online for alot of do it yourself articles. They are not that hard to fix and the parts have gotten fairly reasonable via eBay. Just patience and courage...you can't break anything because it's already broken.

Also, check around your area and call some computer repair places. They fix this for a reasonable price.

When i turn the xbox360 on it says there is an error in the sytmon it shows e74 at bottom of screen

This is a fault with the build quality and design of the xbox...(only my opinion!) the HANA chip... that is located under the dvd drive, then under the white air plenum rely's on the air being sucked passed it to keep it cool.. when it gets too hot the solder securing and connecting the chip to the motherboard becomes pliable and the chip loses contact.. sometimes it will continue to work until you reboot, other times you will get really bad screen quality with lines all over the place and then E74 or E73 error..... two fixes...both will invalidate your warranty! number 1... the quick bodge it routine.... unplug your power cable and remove all of your covers so that you can see the dvd drive and the heat syncs from the top, carefully lift the dvd drive up and forward so it rests on the front of the console, then lift the white plastic air plenum (this sits under the dvd drive and covers the HANA chip , it also clips onto the fan unit!) out of the xbox. Unplug the connecter to the fans (this is located directly next to the fans). plug in the power and leave it displaying the e74 error until the thermal cutout is activated... you will know this by the single red led being lit, changing into two red leds being lit. now becareful here not to get yourself a shock, or burn! pull out the power cable.... with a marker pen/ hairbrush handle ( or any similar plastic item that wont collapse under pressure) press directly downwards with reasonable force onto the top of the HANA chip (it actually says hana on it!) be careful not to push it sideways as the solder is soft at this point and the chip could move and kill your xbox! keep it held down for thirty seconds or so. Carefully reconnect the fan connector, air plenum and dvd drive. plug in your power cable again, press ón'and it should work fine... please note it will last from a few days to a few months, i run mine with the covers off, as modernwarfare2 seems to kill my xbox every 3 days now! if it gives you e73 or e74 again, repeat the above as needed... mine still working..gave me e74 6 months ago!.... fix2.. permanent rid of e74..and red ring of death. Buy a x-clamp kit from ebay or similar and fit it...make sure you use good quality silver grease....buy cables and a dvd external housing from a pc hardware store.. make your dvd external.. you may have to drill a hole in you casing for the cable to come out. buy a small heat sync and the best 3-wired 40mm fan and grill you can buy. attach the sync to the hana chip, cut a hole through your top casing to line up with the heat sync and screw the fan to the inside of your casing so the air blows out, attach the grill to the outside of your casing to coverthe fan from damage. splice the wires from your new fan into the xbox fan wiring, and put it all back together.... its a pain having an external dvd but after this you shouldnt have any faults as everything has room to breathe

My 360 has e74 error and the 2ed code is 1022 and sometimes 1021 but i already did the x clamp mod and i modded and put a fan over the cpu

The cause of the E74 Error might be overheating of your console and for avoiding such error messages in future you need to put your machine at an open space. Ensure that it is placed near the window or you can also make some external arrangement for cooling the console such as cooling the machine through a pedestal fan etc. But as your Xbox already have E74 Problem, You can either send your Xbox to Microsoft for repair ( just for your information Microsoft is no longer providing Extended warranty for E74 Problem), Microsoft generally takes 3-4 weeks to fix the problem. If you can't wait for a month (I know most XBox gamers can not wait without their favourite Gaming device), You can also fix E74 Problem yourself and that too within an hour without any technical knowledge. I would suggest you to check out the DIY Xbox Fix Guide for more information......
