You need XP or 2000 for that. Nothing else will work.
You may try MS virtual PC (free) and install virtual windows XP, that may be a very stupid but effective workaround.

HELP FOR DRIVER

The USB streaming driver for the Camcorder is not available for Windows 7 OS from Sony at this point. Hence it is not possible to transfer videos using USB interface. You may use i.LINK or A/V interface to transfer videos from the Camcorder to the Computer which is running on Windows 7 Operating System.

Please follow the steps to transfer video to a computer using an i.LINK connection (IEEE 1394).

IMPORTANT: Video capture software and a compatible video capture card must be installed on the computer. Depending on the computer manufacturer, various video capture cards and software (Adobe Premiere, Roxio Video Wave, Microsoft Windows Movie Maker, etc.) may be available or already installed on your computer. If necessary, contact the manufacturer of your computer for further information.

NOTE: Many Sony VAIO computers are bundled with Sony DVgate Motion or DVgate Plus software for video capturing. Some VAIO computers also include Click To DVD software that will allow video capture to the computer hard drive or directly to a DVD.

  1. Connect an i.LINK cable (also known as IEEE 1394) to the i.LINK port on the digital camcorder.

i.LINK port.

1_16_2012_5_39_43_pm.jpg

  1. Connect the other end of the i.LINK cable to the computer.

NOTE: The computer i.LINK ports and capture cards may have either 4-pin or 6-pin connections. Sony digital camcorders use i.LINK ports with 4 pins. If your computer only has a 6-pin i.LINK port, then it will be necessary to use a 4-pin to 6-pin i.LINK cable.

  1. Turn on the digital camcorder by moving the POWER switch to the VTR position.
  2. Cue the camcorder tape to the beginning of the video footage.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Start the video capture software on the computer.
  5. Begin playing the recorded video in the camcorder.
  6. Begin importing the video with the capture software.

It should now be possible to copy the video using the video capture software if the computer hardware and software are configured correctly.

Have Plextor Digital Video Converter PX-AX100U and now want to use it on new Windows 7 computer. Spent most of day unsuccessfully trying to do this. The WinDVD Creator seems to work but the ConverterX...

Please don't neg me for being the bearer of bad news, but it would appear that Plextor has no intention of creating a Windows 7 driver for this device.
I looked on their web site (click here) and the last update to their download for this item was in 2009.
Again, I'm sorry for the bad new, but please be kind when rating my response.

My plextor digital video converter px-av100u cant work in my laptop. in my laptop i have windows 7 operating system. please tell me how can i use my capture card.

I could not download a Plextor driver that works w Windows 7. I purchased a Gigaware Video Converter from Radio Shack for $49 which works great with Windows 7. Software also converts video captures into mpeg files so saves time converting from codex.

Does moviebox usb work with studio 14 and vista? I can't get my camera to show as an import device when connected to the movie box.

This is the latest hardware device that can used for Studio 14.

Check the list.

USB based
  • 710-USB
  • 510-USB
  • 700-USB
  • 500-USB
  • MovieBox Deluxe
  • DVC-103
  • DVC-107
  • DVC-100
  • DVC-90
  • DVC-130 (There are no 64-bit drivers for this product.)
  • DVC-170 (There are no 64-bit drivers for this product.)
PCI based
  • 700-PCI (a.k.a. Pinnacle Studio Deluxe 2)
  • 500-PCI (a.k.a. Pinnacle AV/DV)
  • Any 1394 cards.

Are you using vista 32 or 64 bit system? If Vista 64 bit there is no driver for your device and the only available is 32 bit only. Aside from that you can check also the video cable you were trying to used. If firewire under import/capture tab of Studio 14 you need to select the name of your camcorder or dv camcorder. Check that out and try.

Downloading video from Sony DCR-HC45 Camcorder using a 1394 Firewire. My PC is not recognising the connection. It did work at one stage without any problem but not any longer. What must I do

You have to go on Device Manager and delete the imaging device. Then uninstall old drivers and software used with the camcorder. With 32 bit OS (Win XP and Win 7 32 bit) install Nero 8 Essentails or any other video capture software. Do not plug in external device during install. After installation is complete, reboot your PC. Now you can connect your camcorder with firewire port and then open the nero software. Under video capture, it will detect your sony camcorder.

With Windows Vista?

Unfortunately, Plextor has discontinued the unit and has no plans of EVER releasing VISTA drivers. They have never answered my e-mails about this problem...and, quite simply, us owners are screwed if we are limited to VISTA. I keep my old P4 2.8 hooked up for the occasional VHS to DVD transfer. Plextor's customer service is, was, and ever shall be, pathetic. Sorry for the bad news.
