Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

Skipping typewriter. I've only recently had problems with the typewriter in my office. It seems like some letters print fine and others are barely visible. I replaced the ribbon a few days ago thinking that would fix it, what do I do now?

It's an Adler Royal Satellite 4...I think, at least that is what it says on the front of it.

The bumper on this one is metal and plastic. The letters and the part that hits them is all plastic. Could it be the actual plastic letter things are getting worn out? How would I fix that?

There is a round rubber bumper on the hammer mechanism that gets mushy and if it is it will have to be replaced.

It could be a worn type wheel if the same letters always look the same but if they sometimes look good and sometimes look bad it is either the ribbon or the hammer drive solinoid see my comment above.

Sme of the adlers had nakajima printers in them if it a nakajima printer the hammer driver located on the right side of the carrier had a tendency to crack at the mounting hole if so it will need to be replaced. I do them in my shop for $54.56 inc parts and service of the machine.

My Dad has a Royal TA memory typewriter. He tells me it is typing every other letter. It's not double spacing his letters..it's skipping every other letter. He also says it's making a clickity clack...

It sounds like the ribbon is twisted and interfearing with the P/W Try installing a new ribbon and check the P/W for bent or broken spokes.

Only a portion of the letters are printing on the paper.

Sounds like the platen has worked loose. press down firmly on both ends of the platen (black rubber rol) it should snap back into place.

It sounds like you have a damaged printwheel. Get a new one and try it.

Getting Tired

Look at the ribbon. Is there a space for each letter? If so see if you can get some WD40 on the back and front of the print solenoid plunger. The solenoid is located below the ribbon just inside the l. printer side frame it dose gum up. if the ribbon isn't moving try anew ribbon and WD40 on the ribbon motor top and bottom bearings.

IBM Wheelwriter 30 series II - prints only half a letter

If it types only the top half yhe platen is probably not all the way in. Make sure the 2 black latches are lined up with the side frames then press down firmly on both sides of the platen.
