Question about Ovens

2 Answers

Amana model: arg7301ww mfg: p1143330nww The broiler turns on by itself when a burner on the stovetop is turned on. Called a repair person who said it's probably the thermostat. Does this sound right? Any other ideas on what could cause this to happen and how to correct it? I don't use the oven at all and if there's any simple way to permanently disconnect the oven that would be a reasonable solution.

    Rylee,

Can you tell me which numbered item on the schematics is the control board and which is the power board? I am inexperienced with ovens but want to locate these and try to disconnect the wires for bake & broil elements from the control board and from the power board.

    Thank you.

    Manu

    Rylee,

There is no part #27 or #28 on Schematic 1, Image 2. I also want to reconfirm the bake igniter part #s quoted below are correct - they seem to be part of the body?

    Thanks,
    Manu

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. This is happening due to a shorted connection on the control board or due to shorted wiring for broil and burner connections. Please make sure that there are no shorted connections on the control board. Also make sure that the wires are not loose or burnt. This is not due to the thermostat.
If you have expertise in repairing appliances or have previously disassembled these kind of appliances then I'll suggest you to check the control board and the wiring to the broil and burner. And, to disconnect the bake/broil function you can simply disconnect the wires for bake & broil elements from the control board and from the power board; after disconnecting remember to insulate them with electrical tape(don't leave them loose).
Please see these schematics, these will help you disassemble the oven(Click on them to zoom in)---

    Hi

You’ll need to disconnect Broil Igniter Part # 27 from Part
    # 28 (Schematic 1 Image 2) and Bake Igniter Part # 17 from Part # 18 (Schematic
    1 shown between Image 2 and 3).

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or
    else revert for further assistance.

    Thanks

Amana gas oven (model#: ARG7301ww) does not heat. I do not hear the gas turn on or the ignitor go when I turn on the oven. The burners on the range work as usual.

My oven is not working The Broiler works and the stove top works fine but the oven will not heat and when you turn it on no gas comes out I tried turning it on and using a lighter but nothing happens

You gave us good clues in information!-- Thanks!

Most modern gas ovens have a device called a Glow Ignitor to light the burner.
If this ignitor has filed, it will NOT left the gas valve open-- (Good thing, right? :-) )

You say the broiler lights fine-- so let's observe something when the Broiler lights:
Do you see a bright glow near the Broiler burner?
(Usually toward the top rear of the oven--)

Well, you should see a similar bright glowing near the BOTTOM rear of your oven, for the main burner to light off-- If you do NOT see this glowing-- then you need a new ignitor-

You can remove the bottom burner cover, and dig deeper into the repair if you like-
But a new ignitor needs to be exactly like the failed one-- the safety circuit is very fussy about the exact same ignitor-- or it will not allow lighting-- even with a new 'generic' installed.

How deep do you want to go into this repair?-- Maybe it is time to call the service people into do the job?-- You can tell them that you think the ignitor needs replacing-- and approx. what will they charge you for the service call and the ignitor?

I hope this helped.

The oven will not light and is throwing a breaker. Is this something fixable? It has been slow to light for a while now, and we usually have to turn on one of the stovetop burners in order to get the oven...

can you access the ignition module,if so try using one of the connections from the module that ignites a stove top burner and see if this line connected to the oven lights the oven now and doesn't throw the breaker, then you would know that section of the module is defective

Oven won't light. Broiler will ignite and

I don't know how new or what brand your oven is, but chances are you have a bad igniter the bottom burner. It is a small element attached to the burner that should glow red hot when you turn your oven on to ignite the gas. This is the most commment setup and problem. You will have to remove the bottom tray (there are usully 2 finger screws holding it in) to see it. It should look something like this:
http://www.theignitorstore.com/product/306602/range_oven_igniters

If you turn the oven on and nothing happens, turn it back off. You can disconnect the igniter, connect a multimeter set to volts AC, turn back on and check for voltage (120 AC) Don't let any bare wire ends touch the oven or you. If you have power there, its the igniter.

Just get the model number off your oven to look up the proper replacement. Replaces with 2 screws. Make sure it mounts close to the burner. It should only take a couple seconds after you hear the gas turn on to ignite. Hope this helps.

Amana gas range bake burner does not heat

Pull the bottom of the oven off. You will see 2 to 4 screws that hold the panel on. The ignitor is under there. Look at the ignitor carefully for breaks. I say carefully as the ignitor is very easy to break.
