I'm not sure which model you have but if it's a canon powershot, camerasandparts.com is totally incredible with help on these powershot's. They only handle canon's so if that's what you have, they're awesome for these. Here's a direct link that should help with your problem:

http://www.camerasandparts.com/coleerrese.html

Good luck getting it taken care of, that site is terrific for issues on these canon's.

Lens error, restart camera

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Lens error, restart camera

Lens error is usually caused by mechanical faults concerning lens assembly. The lens cannot extend or retract fully, the error is detected and lens error is returned.
Sometimes this can be fixed playing with the lens during extraction or retraction to help the lens asset getting back to normal.
More often the camera lens must be disassembled and re-assembled by a technician to fix the problem.

It has a lens error. Everytime the camera is turned on it beeps and clicks constantly. It eventually shuts off after displaying "Lens error, restart camera." on the screen.

  • changing mem. card and batt. for 2min.
  • shake it.
  • on and off in different positions
  • hit the part near lens softly with palm (trust me this made mine work)

Lens error, restart camera

the beeping sounds means that your camera lens is stuck. contact the manufacturer (canon), for a possible solution...or they can even send u a new one. My friend dropped her SD630 and had the same problem...she contacted canon, and sent in her camera to be fixed, but it wasn't fixable, so canon sent her a brand new camera. hope this helps.
