A centrifugal switch has failed within the dryer. The centrifugal switch maintains electrical flow to the motor after the start button has been released (this is a safety measure) When you press the start button you put power directly to the motor; once started the centrifugal switch then puts power to the motor until the time then shuts it down.
I hope this may have helped you,
Tom

Dryer won't stay running without holding down the start button

It may be the centrifugal switch on the motor. The push button starts the motor and as the motor spins up to speed the centrifugal switch closes to keep the motor running. Hope this helps.

Dryer won't stay on without the button held in

Most likely the motor relay or the even heat board is bad.

The stop button will not stay and makes a buzzing

This sounds just like you have a bad door switch. You check it by taking the two wires off of it and taping them together. Then try the dryer. It should take off and run normally. If so, replace door switch. Good luck.

Dryer will not turn on and stay on.

Hello , bad news here , when you press the start button it sends power to the motor and then a clutch sets in and closes a set of points that then sends power to your element -if the clutch does not engage the motor will not continue to run or send power to the element and that is what is happening to your dryer.
not an easy fix at all , the clutch is bad and its located inside the motor and the entire motor would need replaced to repair this problem. they range from 80-100 dollars and would take about 1-2 hours to change.
let me know if you have any other questions.
