Replaced the old element in the stove now the stove wont turn on

There is power to the stove as the inside light comes on but nothing at all when I turn the nob to bake/ broil ? While I was replacing the old element there was a few sparks when the leads touched something? But I had the main power to the house shut off at the time and was shocked to see it spark. I finished replacing it and now nothing when i turn the oven on ? I checked all the breakers- flipping them off/ on 1 at a time and still nothing ?

I'm wondering if my Jenn-Air Model JER8885QCS needs a new probe or not. It's a...

As oven probes age, they can sometimes generate error codes on kitchen ranges and render them inoperative. The error code varies between models, but can be found with the technical documentation that comes with your range. Most manufacturers place a tech sheet somewhere along the back of the range, or inside the console for qualified technicians to use as a troubleshooting aid. Refer to this if an “F” code is displayed on your operator console. The probe may also exhibit other symptoms without generating an error code. You could have undesired heating results (too hot or too cold), or slow preheat times.

The location of the oven probe can vary on different models as well. It will be mounted on the back or side of the oven wall (usually in the upper right or upper left corner). If you suspect you have a bad oven probe, a resistance check can be performed to determine if the probe is good. To accomplish this, unplug the range and remove the back panel. There are still dangerous voltages present even when the oven is not on. There will be two heat insulated wires coming from the oven probe behind the oven. Disconnect the wires and perform a resistance reading across both wires at room temperature. If the probe is good, it should read around 1100-1200 ohms*. If the reading is too low (shorted) or too high (open), replace it. However, I would take a good look at the interconnecting wiring FIRST. If you have a connector plug on the oven probe, often the plug pins will oxidize and not make good contact. This gives false readings and can lead to erroneous error codes. Some manufacturers recommend cutting the connector plug off completely and hardwiring the leads together by using heat resistant ceramic wire lugs. This provides a more permanent and reliable connection. The lugs can be purchased at most hardware stores. A new oven probe roughly costs about $35 - $45 and can be found on line at several appliance parts websites. Higher end model prices may be more.

To replace the oven probe, simply remove the mounting screw from inside the oven cavity, disconnect the wires and pull the probe out. Insert the new probe by feeding the wires through the opening in the back of the oven first and out the back through the insulation (a long screwdriver can assist you in making a visible hole through the heat insulation to feed the wires easier). Once you have the wires through the back of the oven, reinsert the mounting screw and connect the wires leads together. Reinstall back panel.

*NOTE: Keep in mind resistance readings will be higher if the probe is hot. Make sure you check the temperature at room temperature.

I hope this information is helpful..

We have a JennAire model CP220W-C01 cooktop. We use the old coil type heating elements. There was a flash and smoke from the right front element. A repairperson replaced the connector, only to have it blow...

Unplug the element from the receptacle and then disconnect the receptacle from the point where it plugs into the stove. Now, carefully, turn on power to this heating element. If nothing happens then you have removed the likelihood of a problem in the large portion of the stove's wiring. Next, plug the receptacle cable back into the stove without connecting the heating element. Again, carefully turn on the power to the heating element in question. If there is no spark then the cable, connector and receptacle are ok. If it does spark, replace the receptacle and cable assembly. No spark, then inspect the heating element where it connects to the receptacle. Look for melting or signs of damaged insulation that would allow for a "dead short". If you see damage to the element then replace the element. No damage, clean the connections with a toothbrush, and plug the element back in and turn on the juice. If it sparks again, replace the element. Good luck and be careful. Don't attempt any of this if you are inexperienced in working with electricity. 220 Volts can cause death or serious injury... just the flash from an arc can cause blindness and burns.

Broiler will not come on when baking

Take a look at the element ( the "tube" inside the oven that glows red hot when the oven is turned on). If the element is burned out it will not be hot and glowing. You may have a loose connection to the element but most likely it is burned out and needs replacing.
Our stove is 27 years old and I have had to replace top or bottom elements every 6 years or so. I just bought a replacement element at Canadian Tire in Calgary for about $34. Just undo the 2 screws around the element and attach the new element to the old wires.
Good Luck -I hope this works for you

Your breaker in the breaker box has a double pole breaker for the stove one breaker is shot so you still have 120volts which runs the lights 240volts for the elements.Turn main power off and replace the breaker. To verify for sure pull the stove out and unplug it check power at the plug you need 240volts at the plug. If i dont have a plug and wired straight in disconnect the wires and check the wires.

The top burners come on but my oven wont heat up. The elements are working, i had them tested. The stove is only two years old.

There is an open circuit in the oven circuit.

If you have a timer, make sure it is set to Manual Operation.

The thermostat rarely fails unless there is mechanical damage to the gas tube inside the oven. It is common for terminals to open circuit due to the high power consumed by oven element.

It is also possible to have a blown fuse to oven supply if it is fed by two or three phase power.

Check for supply form terminal block to thermostat and from thermostat to element.

A simple test is to remove oven element and insert light globe. When oven turns on globe should light. This confirms element is blown.

Hello Lucie,
If the range or oven is receiving power but doesn't work, the unit may have its own fuse or circuit breaker assembly. This assembly is usually located under the cooktop of the range. In some units, lift the top of the range to gain access to the fuse assembly; or lift the elements, remove the drip pans, and look on the sides of the cabinets. Inside the oven, look to the back to spot the fuse assembly. I would highly recommend that you remove or disable power to the stove prior to making any component changes...
If the unit has this additional fuse or breaker system, components such as the oven light, the range heating elements, the timer, and a self-cleaning feature may be separately fused. If these components or features fail to work, don't overlook the possibility that the fuses have blown. To replace a blown fuse, unscrew the old fuse and install a new one of the same type and electrical rating. If the unit has circuit breakers, push the breaker or reset button, which is usually located on the control panel.
I would think that your landlord ( since you are renting) would be responsible for the maintence and/or replacement of your stove,,,
Good Luck..
Regards,
Rick

Kenmore ultrabake lights up when stove top is on but wont heat up

Hard to know...First thing I'd check is the power supply to the unit.  Turn off both breakers.  Check wiring all the way through for tightness.  Turn both breakers on.  Next, you'll need to check the elements for continuity...with the power off.
