Have you even looked in an HP-12C???

    It takes three 357 or A76 @1.55 each = about 4.5 VDC.

You couldn't get the CR2032 to even fit and it would be 3 * 3 = 9 VDC.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

Hello,
Here is the self-test procedure for your calculator. If it does not answer as it should, it may need service. Sorry, I resized the picture but FixYa refuses the new dimensions. Hope it helps.

SOURCE: I have an HP 12c.

Hi.

To start I must mention that the calculator itself may be faulty. In that case there is nothing to do. We do not normally repair this devices.
After that, HP recommend that you use only one of the batteries below (alkaline). This calculator will not work if you do not use the right batteries.

HP 12c (All serial numbers below CN11500001)*

Duracell PX76A/675A

Panasonic LR44

HP 12c (Beginning with serial # CN11500001), HP 12c platinum and prestige series:

Duracell DL 2032

Panasonic CR2032

Resuming: ensure that you are using the right battery; possibly double check battery installation; if that is OK, then replace calculator. The same model is available from about $50. Other HP finantial calculator prices start at about $25:

Hewlett Packard 12C

Hewlett Packard 10BII Business

Regards.

Ginko.

LR44 or equivalent batteries should be available at just about any electronics store. There are about a dozen Sydneys in the world, is there a Radio Shack store nearby?

How to fix my hp calculator 12c numbers display is faint?

There is no contrast adjustment possible with the 12c. Most of the time, faint displays are due to weak batteries or poor contact with the battery or batteries.

Do you have advice in calculator choice between HP 12 c and the TI BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator? Assuming that I get proficient with RPN (which I'm learning now); is one faster than the...

The 12C is more expensive and more powerful than the BAII+Pro. The HP is also programmable, which the TI isn't. Starting from scratch (assuming you've never used a calculator before---a somewhat unreasonable assumption) the TI might be easier to learn, at least initially. But after a certain point, the HP will leave the TI behind. The HP is faster and more capable.

There are at least three different versions of the 12C available. There's the original 12C, the 12C Platinum, and the current 12C. The only way to tell the difference between the two non-Platinums is to look at the battery compartment---the original uses three button cells while the newer uses two coin cells. The newer one is MUCH faster. The Platinum, however, can use RPN or algebraic.

Unless your choice is limited to the 12C or the BAII (by the requirement of an exam, perhaps), you might want to look at the HP 20B and the HP 30B. Programmability aside, they're even more powerful and easier to use and faster than the 12C, and the 30B is also programmable.

There are other considerations, of course. Factors such as the feel of the keyboard, the 12C's landscape orientation as opposed to the others' portrait orientation, etc, are all matters of personal preference.

Disclaimer: I own multiple HP and multiple TI calculators. I tend to use HP calculators for calculating, while I use TI calculators to answer questions here at FixYa.

I have an HP 12c. I replaced the battery (CR2032) and the unit will not turn on.

Try to flip the battery, if it does not work, pull the battery out and wait for 10 minutes. After that, put the battery in again.

Incorrect claculation

I get an answer of 366.91 in my 12C as well. You might try either putting in a zero for FV before hitting the [PMT] key, or clearing your registers before doing the problem, as you may be picking up an old value from a previous problem in the FV register.
