Find an authorized Kirby Dealer in your area and have the part professionally installed. Very complex. Many parts and screws. If no Kirby store, find a Vac store you trust. Or go here http://reviews.ebay.com/REPLACING-OR-REPAIRING-KIRBY-VACUUM-NEUTRAL-DRIVE-PEDAL_W0QQugidZ10000000011180003

S5602 shut off

The switch is probably broken. try a flat screw driver up under the foot switch and see if the little button is missing. If the foot switch is not making a click sound when pushing on it the switch is broken. I have found on some of the vacuums I've worked on the on/off switch is not broke. There is a little button about the size of a candy cig and 1/4 " tall and there is usually a rubber spacer with a spring that holds it up off the switch. If one or both pieces are missing that's your problem.

common fault when customers do their own repairs, the handle pivot assembly is not sitting in the yoke assembly

The TechDrive Pedal on my Kirby G6 fell out of the back of my vacuum cleaner. I removed the screws from the metal plate one the bottom to try to see if something had come a loose. Can you send me a diagram...

This requires removal of the transmission assembly and replacement of the pedal assembly - it cannot be repaired. The handle and upper motor shell must be remove to access the transmission assemby. There are two screws in front, and two under the plastic switch plate.

Actuator arm for Hoover U6473-900 vacuum's drive broke

I just changed the actuator arm on my girlfriend's 6437-900 and it's pretty straight forward. Not certain how you got the transmission out, but here's what I did:
-unplug the vacuum
-remove the 4 screws and the plate over the roller brush as well as the roller brush
-remove the two screws and the plastic cover over the end of the hose on the right side.
-remove the 2 screws down in the bottom of the housing on either side of the drive wheels
-remove the single screw in the middle/bottom of the housing
-push the two tabs on the inside of the outer edge of the housing to remove the top cover
-flip the vacuum over, you'll see an "e" clip holding the actuator arm in place being careful not to lose it
-use a torx bit to remove the old cable hold down
-gently bend the metal piece over the arm back far enough to remove the old arm. Note the slot in the metal piece, you'll need to make sure you get the metal tab in the slot when you reassemble everything.
-put the new arm in, about $8 at a Hoover repair store
-put the metal piece over the rod that the e-clip fits into, making certain the tab and slot are aligned
-press down on the metal piece once it's on the rod with the tip of your screwdriver so it snaps in place, carefully put the e-clip back in it's slot on the rod.
-put the cover back on, lay the vacuum flat, put the cable end in it's channel on the arm, tighten the hold down.
-flip the vacuum over, plug it in and turn it on, being careful to keep hands, fingers, ties, hair, small children, pets, etc away from the spinning roller brush
-move the handle, still in the off position, up and down to make certain the drive wheels don't move. If they do then readjust the position of the cable on the end of the arm. The wheels should not move at all with the handle in the off position.
-enjoy

N AND D came off

The N and D are Neutral and Drive. Its for the self propelled feature on the vacuum. The transmission might be out. If you need the self propelled feature, then you need to get that fixed

Either the cogged belt broke, or you will have to pull the transmission and see if something came apart. May have to replace the transmission.

U6439-900 Self Propell on/off switch

Check the cable to see if it is broke either in the handle or down below, you can see it from the top . If it isn't broke, the part that the cable hooks to (actuator)may be broke. Could be the flat belt, they stretch after awhile and will just slip and drive the transmission or brush roll under load.

Kirby G5 Transmisson

I know the lever you're describing, but it's very hard to tell someone how to put it back on. There's nothing wrong with your transmission, by the way, this is a part that's meant to be moveable, and it just happened to slip off in your case. You may call us at 1-866-509-1952, and we can do our best to help you.
