Just installed the Sony DRU-500A and it has no problem playing CDs, but it doesn't read DVDs. Movies or ROMs, I get property messages that say it's a CD Drive, and that there is no media. It says Disk: CD-ROM 0; Type: DVD; Status: No Media... I just don't get it. I would really like to solve this because it says I have the latest drivers and I've gotten no error messages, but I want to install Vista and it's on a DVD! Please help. Btw, I'm currently running XP Pro 2002 SP2. Thanks.
INSTALL VISTA ANY WAY the problem is that windows can use the drive..
BOOT OF THE VISTA DISC
enter setup when the system boots up
go to booting options
and select the dvd rom as the first boot device
ensure the vista disc is in the drive
and save and exir setup
it will tell you to pree any key to boot from cd/dvd
and it will install vista without any hassle

Won't recognize DVDs even on boot! Tried this with Win XP SP2 and OpenSUSE Linux. The drive passes the sony Drive Check!
