Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a whirlpool washer that I purchased one year and a few months at Lowe's Home Improvement. It sounds really loud sometimes when it agitates and in the spin cycle. It doesn't make that noise each time. My husband said it sounds like the transmition is going bad. Should I get a repair person.

That model has a habiit of getting things stuck in the pump
if you pull it out a bit you can access it from the back
put your hand on it as it spins or aggitate if its the problem you will feelo it

I own a whirlpool top loading washer - under 2 years old. it stopped draining water and spinning. replaced the timer and now it works fine, but now when the washer finishes spinning, the agitator stops...

depending on your exact mode;
sounds like a brake, or a clutch
those are really only two parts it could be
on the whirlpool the brake is part of the transmission on the direct drive

Loud clicking while agitating

You may have debris stuck in the pump.
This can cause the clicking sound and also bind the pump causing a circuit overload.

Whirlpool washer agitates but makes a very loud noise

It sounds like the agitator teeth, that are plastic, are worn out. To check this, take the agitator cap off with a strong knife or flat-head screw driver, and check the circular teeth inside, to see if they are worn out. These plastic teeth are the agitator part of the washer, where as the spinning part is a metal set of teeth, at the bottom of the agitator. You see the metal teeth, when you take the agitator completely out. You will have to replace the agitator if the teeth are worn out.

Noisy agitator

SOUNDS LIKE THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY OR MAYBE BEARINGS ... A GOOD APPLIANCE REPAIR COMPANY USUALLY OFFERS A "FLAT-RATE" DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE THAT VERIES FROM 30-50 DOLLARS. LABOR AND PARTS ARE ALWAYS EXTRA. MOST ALL WASHER MANUFACTURERS HAVE "SPECIALTY" TOOLS TO PREVENT THE HOME-OWNER FROM ADJUSTING THE CLUTCH OR MAKING REPAIRS. YOU HAVE TO DECIDE WETHER ITS WORTH REPAIRING. NEVER SIGN ANYTHING. OR LET A REPAIRMAN START WORKING AFTER HIS DIAGNOSTIC CHECK ... UNTIL A TOTAL COIST FOR REPAIR IS REACHED.
