Dryer is louder than before

Started to add a deeper low frequency type noise than it had before. Any history of bearing trouble?

Took the dryer apart and it was filled with lint. Cleaned with vacuum and compressed air. The motor belt pulley was gunked up with hair etc and cleaned that too. Tested and reassembled. Still have the low frequency sound which I take to be bearing sound. It may fail in which case I'll replace the bearings but now the dryer runs much better. The dryer is about 10 years old but now looks like new. Was easy to disassemble so if I have to do it again no problem.

Either your drum bearing or drum felt kit is worn out. It is always better to put drum bearing along with new drum felt kit.

The type of noise you report is consistent with wheel bearing failure. It is VERY difficult to determine failure simply by lifting wheel, and sensing play or roughness upon rotation. My experience tells me that bearing start to fail with a high pitch noise ( no play) and at later stages with a deeper rumble, and a tad of wheel play. From start of failure, to absolute disaster, like losing munitions / bearings, it might take like a 1000 miles or more. At earlier stages bearings will howl only when provoked, and will stop whining if you add more weight, or take off weight from them, such as in turns or heavy breaking.

Loud squeaking noise when you start up the dryer could it be a bearing dull squeak not high pitched a little bit of a grind sound

It does sound like a bearing or at least a lack of lubrication. But it could also be belt slippage if it only happens at the start. If it is the bearing it would be continuous and slowly get louder and louder.

The idler pulley bearing might be the trouble. If the dryer has an idler pulley that tensions the belt, check this bearing in the idler pulley. If it is a bush type, just oiling it might be all that is required. Also make sure there isnt any piece of wire etc in the drum bearing. You might have to take the drum out to check this. However the most likely cause of a SCREACHING noise is the idler.

When we turn on our Whirlpool Supreme electric dryer, it heats up and dries clothes, but it is making a loud squeaking noise throughout the cycle...sometimes louder than others.

The squeaking noise can be caused by any of the following.

Location High:

Belt slipping on the dryer drum

Worn Drum seals but would sound more like a dragging noise

Location Low:

Belt tensioner pulley bearing frozen and the idler pulley shaft is spinning inside the belt tensioner assy.

Belt slipping on the motor bearing

Motor bearing is dry

THERE ARE THREE POSSIBLILITY. THE BLOWER WHEEL IS LOOSE AND BANGING ON THE VENT. THE BEARING FOR THE TUMBLER IS BAD, MAKING A LOUD SCRAPING NOISE. ROLLER BEARING IS BAD. WORSE CASE, THE MOTOR IS GOING BAD. GOOD LUCK

Could be one of your wheel bearings going bad- I've had to replace three of the four on my 2002 S-Type in the last two years. Raise each tire off the ground -- if you can wobble the tire with your hands, the bearing is bad. They shouldn't move at all if they are good.
