Question about Whirlpool LER4634J Electric Dryer

1 Answer

I have a Whirlpool AWZ 99100 6th Sense Condenser Dryer, bought in France. It won't start, and the indicator lights flash when I try to start it. At first I had problems with the water getting up to the upper reservoir. It did a good number of loads with water leaking out the bottom before I saw where lint was clogging the passage to the lower reservoir. From that point on the heating element was no longer working. It just blew cold air. So I opened it up, removed the heating element and blew out the dust with compressed air. While I was at it, I looked to see if there were any fuses inside the machine, but I didn't find any. In the process, I removed the front control panel and put it back on. There's a mechanical "arm" behind the panel that probably indicates to the brain of the machine when the panel is removed. Anyway, after removing a lot of lint in the machine, everything came back together pretty easily. But now, when I try to run the machine, the timer goes immediately to 0:00 and the indicator lights flash. It does this for all of the programs. No mechanical activity. One exception: If I set the timer for a delayed start, and then hit the start button, there is a small noise in the back, as if the water pump was running. I checked the switch attached to the floater, but it seemed okay (in the "down" position).

Holding the start button doesn't work. I had already emptied the water out of the upper and lower reservoirs (the lower one feeds the pump, which sends the water to the upper one, that you empty after each load). I blew in the tubes make sure none were clogged.

To test the pump (which works when I put the machine on Delayed Start), I poured some water into the lower reservoir and put it on Delayed Start. It pumped water correctly.

Still, when I tried to run a program (cotton normal, 20 minutes), it did the same old thing: the clock went right to 0:00, the indicator lights flashed, and no mechanical action.

I decided to see if it would start after a Delayed Start, since that part seemed to work normally. I set the program on 20 minutes (no sensor, just in case), and set the Delayed Start for 1 hour. The pump ran at the beginning, and the drum turned a few times every 5 or ten minutes (anti-wrinkle feature). At the end of the hour, instead of starting up, it did the same thing as before: clock on 0:00 and indicator lights flashing.

I'm not sure if my last comment got through. Holding down the Start button did nothing. The pump runs correctly when I put it on Delayed Start. I tried putting the program on 20 minutes and a Delayed start of 1 hour. During the delay, the drum would turn a couple of times every 5 or ten minutes (anti-wrinkle function), but at the end of the hour, when it normally should start up, the clock went to 0:00 and the indicator lights flashed, just like before.

The dryer has an overfill cutout if you start and hold in the start button you should hear the pump come on,and pump the water out. then the dryer will start.if it happens again you may have a blockage in the black drain hose take the top panel off and blow down it,or the pump itself could be faulty.(if the dryer is sitting on the floor you have to drain the water into the drawer, if its mounted on top of a washing machine you can connect the long back hose to the sink.
thanks, keep updated and please rate and accept the solution.

What to do if whirlpool awz 50e washing machine is showing water closed tap indicator although tap is not closed

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
Providing that the tap is turned fully on and the hoses are not kinked or squashed at the back, this is symptomatic of a malfunctioning water control valve- the hot water one, if the washer is hot and cold fill, and the cold one if it is just cold fill!
Sorry but it needs replacing and a service call to confirm that it is not something else ;-0(
Good luck,
John C

I got a Whirlpool AW Z 865 dryer. It is a condenser dryer and the water is not going up to the collecting bucket, but remains below and then leaks out and floods the floor when I open the little pull door...

I had a similar problem with a Whirlpool AWZ 8578 Tumble Dryer. The solution was to clean the fluff out of the rubber grommet in the drain hole under the left front of the condenser. Then the water from the condenser could run into the collection container underneath.
