Laptop will not start up properly

My girlfriends laptop - an Inspiron 1545 - is saying that the computer did not close down properly and is now giving her the option to start up in a number of 'safe' modes or 'start up normally'. on trying to start normally it allows here to enter her password but then the screen goes grey and nothing seems to be happening. Her son needs it for homework and as an autistic child is not getting very anxious. I am 50 miles away and have no experience of this. Can someone PLEASE help?

Hi,
-i would suggest that you run the Dell Diagnostics
-while the computer is off, press and hold the "Fn" key then press the power button at the same time; check if the problem is happening during the test
-do the test on the screen; while the computer is off, press and hold "D" then press the power button at the same time; check if you see the diif colors without any problem; if problem is not seen it is a Motherboard problem; if problem is seen it is an LCD problem; call your manufacturer

Just start up in SAFE mode. Then shut down normally. On the next boot, the computer should come up normally. (not in safe mode)

Usually when you close the lid on your laptop, it will go to sleep mode. The second light is orange and blinks when it is in sleep mode.

Can you help with my Dell inspiron 1545 VGA problem?


Laptops use shared RAM memory, it uses part of the main RAM.
If the RAM is faulty or not making proper electrical connection it affects the video.
Reseat the RAM module/s and if this does not fix the problem, remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM.

Dell inspiron 1545 laptop has went through 5 chargers they work for 6 months and then say does not not charging does not recognize battery


This is similar problem I had on my laptop.
Its a problem with the battery not the Charger If computer is in Warranty you get it from Dell or buy a new battery

Trys to start but when its loading it turns off...its a dell inspiron 1545 i tried to start it on safe mode and nothing it turns off


I have some things I might be asking you to do first. Because this might be a heat issue but just to make sure try these steps first.

Remove batter and charger.

Hold down power button for 20 seconds.

Remove the RAM or memory chip. By doing this the computer will give you 2 beeps and a pause then another 2 beeps just right after you power on the computer. While computer is beeping check if the laptop will turn off automatically.

If yes then HEATSINK, THERMAL PAD and FAN needs to be replaced.

If the laptop stays ON and beeping and beeping it means it might be the RAM. So test the RAMs one at a time. Run the computer using 1 RAM at the moment then try the other slot. Do the same thing on the other RAM.

If still turn off with each RAM tested the have the MOBO or PROC replaced.

My Inspiron 1545 turns off when I unplug it from adapter, and when plugged in, the power light on front flashes four times orange and one time white repeatedly.


Does the battery for dell inspiron 1545 plug in. It maybe because the battery pack is too hot ,you can turn off the laptop,let the pc notebook and the laptop battery both cooled down.Then try turn on it to see. If still happen to the matter,it must because the wrong turn off did harm to your Inspiron 1545 laptop adapter.

When I click shut down my Dell Inspiron 1545 won't shut down. Help!


I would need more information than that to give you a solution. Are there any dialog boxes that pop up when you try to shut down the laptop? What operating system are you running? Are you experiencing any other problem with the laptop (multiple problems are related more often than you might think).

My Inspiron 1545 laptop will let me get to the login point, them the welcome window just stops. It sometimes just goes back through the same procedure until I enter my password, and thats it! How can I fix...


Please press F8 several times during start up. When computer gives you few options of startup choose Safe Mode. Once in Safe Mode go Start----->All Programs---->Accessories------>System Tools------>System Restore. When you get there choose last date when system was working properly and restore to this point. When I close my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, it always shuts down, even when I set it to sleep mode. This causes Windows to shut down incorrectly among other problems.


Check your computer bios settings. There is a power managment section. Turn off power managment or set it to os controled. Check dells support site for any acpi drivers that you may need. These are needed for suspending controls.
