The issue is relative to the native resolution of the monitor. in most 24" monitors the resolution is 1920 x 1200. When you get an application that is shown in the upper left corner of the screen, it is most likely set in a page frame of 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768. Also many web pages will display with large amounts of white space on one or both sides.
This you can do to help.
Set the DPI setting in display properties to 120 will help some making small type more readable.
Pages that are in Internet Explorer can be zoomed to appear larger zoom feature in bottom right corner of IE window (or CTRL & + and CTRL & - key combinations)

I have adell inspiron N5030 laptop i installed windows xp.. i need audio, video and bluetooth driver for this. please help me..

You can download the device drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on thebottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Taglabel is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where thespecific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you selectthe Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on thislink to download the drivers: - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

Can't set to optimal resolution

Hi, according to this link: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/S2409W/en/ug/internet.htm You have to enter your "service tag" number or contact dell about obtaining a "graphics adapter". I hope this information helps you, best of luck. Please let us know if this information helped and accept this answer. If you need more clarification please feel free to ask... Kiyoske_dante

White 1 inch vertical band on display

just a thought.. Either your Graphics card or your Video Card has gone bad.. unfortunately DELL has a tendency of putting the graphics ON-BOARD and IF the onboard grqaphics card is bad, you'll need to get into the BIOS and turn the onboard graphics off then purchase an after market Graphics driver.. IMPORTANT: make certain that the graphic cars is compatable with the DELL PC OR purchase a less Proprietary system

Display area is "shrunken" on Dell Inspiron 4000 display

Go to Control Panel - Display - Settings - Advance - Monitor, set it to Default monitor and click OK.
Does the display now fill the screen?
If this doesn't work, go to the DELL WEB site and see if there a driver for the display. To ensure you get the correct driver for your model laptop, use the Service Tag number (which is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop) to the download page for your model laptop, download the correct Windows XP or Vista version of the driver from :-

My Dell notebook monitor display's a small screen instead of full size. Any ideas why?

Try changing the screen resolution (right-click on desktop->properties->settings->ok) or searching on Dell's website under the support section for display drivers for your model

Here is a little guide for setting up dual monitors with fedora core 6: http://blog.taragana.com/index.php/archive/how-to-setup-dual-monitors-on-linux-fedora-core/

I haven't had to use duals monitors with Linux yet but if this doesn't work let me know and I'll run some tests as I can easily set this up at work (we use the same computers and similar cards).

Rotating screen view

To change the orientation of the display you need to change settings on the video card properties. Just physically changing the orientation of the LCD will not change the display on it. (Generic options to follow are : Right click on desktop > click properties > click tab settings > click advanced > click on tab of video card name > you should find the rotation option on this window)
NOTE : if these options are not available, high probability that your video card does not support orientation / rotation of display.

Display is extremely large

This sounds like your resolution is set too low, right click on your desktop and select properties Choose the settings tab from the window that appears, then you should be able to see a slider that tells you your screen resolution. This is most likely set to 640 x 480, the setting you want should be in the region of 1024 x 768 If you are unable to change this setting, you need to check that your display adapter drivers are installed properly in "Device Manager"
