Do not have a DVD. I have a Comcast cable box. I thought that was the problem. However, repairman came and installed a new cable box. He fiddled with the color and the picture is much better, but I still have a blue tint throughout. I can see different colors, but blue tint, cast, appearance, look, hue, or whatever you want to call it still persists. However, it does not change back forth to yellow/green any more. I don't know what else I can tell you. I called an outfit in VA and they seemed to know what the problem was and said it would cost me $170. However, he didn't want to come all the way to Gaithersburg, MD. This company was rated #1 by Toschiba.

Thanks. You wrote, " . . . its worth getting fixed . . .." I don't understand. I checked the prices on a Blue Signal Video output Transistor and they seem to be over $200. The places I have called to get the TV repaired charge $100 just to come to my apartment. From what I've seem on the web replacing the CRT would cost more or about the same as a new larger LCD HDTV. Do you really think it is worth fixing?
    Thanks, David Hogben

Why does my KD-32FS170 32" Sony Trinitron screen have blue hues

If you turn all of the color out of the TV, the picture should be black and white. If that picture is not a true black and white picture, the TV will produce a color picture that has that behind it. It takes the proper mixture of red, green and blue light to produce white. This is something that is done inside the glass picture tube.
In your case, one color (blue is stronger) and the others are weaker.
It probably had not been used for a while. SOMETIMES, the weaker colors will get stronger with use. Adjust the brightness and picture controls to get the closest you can to a black and white picture, and then add the amount of color that seems right to you. Use the TV and hope for the best. It will improve, but 2%, 10%, or 50%; I do not know. The proper repair is to replace the glass picture tube, which is not an option at this time. So, turn it on, play games, and HOPE for the best.

What are signs of picture tube going?

Signs of a CRT going old, are bad focussing, unnatural colours and hues of a certain colour (red, green, or blue) if you watch black/white pictures. In colour pictures, black sequences also show hue.

Problem with the Toshiba 50H13 50 in. Rear Projection Television. Green tint

The tubes have aged and the colour balance between the tubes has shifted. You will need to redo it using a black/white test image: first the black (the cutoff point), then the white (the gain) on each tube - always start with the green colour. This is done on the final video amplifier of each tube by adjusting the corresponding semiadjustable resistors.

What causes the yellowish hue in the centre of the screen

There are several different types of projection sets: some use 3 picture tubes, red,green,blue--if this kind of set is what you have the coolant used in the blue tube is bad-----this type of problem leaves red and green which = yellow.

Most common in Samsung, Philips, Magnavox type sets.

If it is a newer set without picture tubes (a dlp style set) yellow in the middle of the screen would denote a damaged optical light engine.

Let me know brand, model number, date made----all are on back of set.

Sony Trinitron picture turning green hues

Nowadays CRT's do not have good quality shadow masks anymore. After heating up a little they can give a so called "blooming" effect giving a blue an yellow leaf effect large over the screen. Reason nonparallelity in deformation of the shadow mask.

Good day.

The problem with your unit is that when your tube was replaced, it was not degaussed or demagnitized. The purpose of such is to distribute the color evenly unto the entire television matrix.
You can try to demagnetized it by rotating a magnet around the surface( but not so near) of the picture tube while it is operating.

Also, please check for the degaussing coil around the rear portion of the tube was returned and also check for loose contacts.

Chuck the TV - probably It depends on the repair facilities available where you live. In big urban areas the cost of staffing a repair shop is such it can cost nearly as much per hour just to look at an item is it does to buy the next one-plus you get all the latest features.
