You would be better off replacing the whole motherboard, with one that can handle the 3ghz processor. the motherboard prices are quite low nowadays, spending a bit of extra dollars will save you a lot of time and head aches when you get into problems with compatibility issues. Its actually worth thinking about.....

No specs are given but if you check this link it will give you a copy of the manual how to remove memory and chip and how to fix settings. Also phone numbers are provide if you wish to talk to someone at Dell.
http://supportapj.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx240/en/ug/index.htm

Your system will support up to 2Gb memory this a standard with these machines. Not sure about chip!

I have a Dell Dimension 2400. I want to upgrade from 512mb of memory to 1GB. The manual says I have two memory connectors. Do I get the 1GB, or two 512mb to upgrade? Thank you for your response.

Hello

Yes, you can upgrade your system upto 2GB RAM, buy another 512MB RAM DDR 333Mhz and install it to empty slot of RAM, it will upgrade the RAM to 1 GB.

Hope it will help, if so do rate the solution

If I remember correctly, that Dell has two memory module slots, so 2 512 mb modules of non-ecc pc133 memory is the max that the system board will allow.
This is controlled by the system board chipset, and not by the bios.

Since you can't upgrade memory on a video card especially if its built on to the motherboard your best bet is to purchase a new PCI video with the proper amount of memory you need and install into your dell PC. you may have to go into the BIOS and disable the on board video card and tell the system to use the new one. Just make sure the new card you purchase has drivers for whatever operating system you are running.

Very slow boot

Bruce, the Dell OptiPlex GX260 normally will be equipped with a PC133 DDR1 128MB RAM module. It is recommended that you upgrade to higher memory bus DDR1 memory module, for example, 512MB/1GB DDR 1 running on 266 MHz to 533 MHz.

Hope this helps. Make sure u come back here if u still have further request.
