Try plugging a known good headset into the jacks behind the PC. Still no sound! Open control Panel, open Sound & Audio Devices. Click on the Audio tab. In the sound playback section a device should be shown. Click the Voice Tab, the same device should be there as well. Lastly, Open (System) while in control panel. Click the (Hardware) tab & than click Device manager. Scroll down to Sound, video & game controller. Do you see a yellow !. If yes there is a problem with your intergrated sound controller. You can try downloading & installing the sound drivers
for your PC at : http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_P4_4600&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
If that still does not help than install a PCI sound card to your PC. Install the CD that comes with it.

Check all your volume settings in windows, and check all your sound settings in windows first.

If you are sure its a hardware problem
try different speakers or headphones to make sure its not the speakers. Make sure its the output/speaker jack that you are plugging into. In many cases the jack wears out if you keep on plugging speakers in and out of the jack. In that case you can stick a small piece of aluminum foil inside the jack to add some conductivity. If that doesn't work, the sound card has been short circuited i suggest disabling it in the bios if its onboard sound card, then buy a new one and install it.

Check your BIOS and make sure the onboad soundcard is Enabled before installing the drivers.

Rule out the possiblity of the sound driver being the culprit as the other gurus have suggested by following their instructions. Reinstall the sound driver that came with your computer, or download a new one from the sites linked here.

You can tell the sound jack is shorted out, or has worn out if its really crackly and noisy when you have the speakers jacked in while playing audio. Only thing you can do in that case is resolder it or buy a PCI sound card.

Is this a Dell Dimension 4600 PC Desktop?

If so I can help you find sound drivers for it. You have to figure out if the speakers are the problem if you do not get an obvious error to indicate that it is a software problem.

Have you;

Checked power?
Checked plugs to make sure they are in the right place?
Swapped out the speakers with a set that you know work?
Used headphones to make sure the sound is actually coming out of the computer?

Let me know the answers to these questions please.

well you &hash39;s why do you think there is a short in the cord did you hear static?
if you are having problems with your sound
if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers make sure you have selected the
(((appropriate speakers))) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there
also
click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar
if his does not fix the problem

have you tried this control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer
hope this helps

Computer won't turn on after short in electrical circuit

Hi:
You might just need the power supply on your computer tower replaced. It is about $40, and not that hard to swap out. Most computer stores will test it for you for free too. If they test it and its good, then you might have further damage to your tower from the power problem, but the power supply would be the most likely problem

Sorry, once there is short circuit happened in one of the component of a set devices mainly your surround sounds speakers and since they are all interconnected of there will be a chain reaction, one short circuit runs through the other device and then another short circuit will happen.

To make it short, if your speakers still have a warranty contact the manufacturer for support and most probably parts replacements.

If all else fails, purchase a new one...

Please never forget that on all electrical and electronic devices, especially home appliances, NEVER PULL OUT THE PLUG IF ITS TURNED ON, TURN IT OFF FIRST.

Hope these helps.

try rolling back the driver,or go online to update it...."sound driver"maybe it is the jack plug outlet.....as a quick check, turn the system sound nearly right down, and quickly plug in your headphones into the jack outlet,if you hear anything through the head phones"not wearing them"then its the lead and jack on your speakers..

one is for "mic" (pink)
one is for "speaker" (green)
one is for "line in" (blue)

Help me

Friend one solution for this problem is to reinstall your soundcard driver if you use one or your windows media player software to see if you have deleted something in your PC. But check the connection of your speaker if it is plug correctectly from your power outlet, if it is plug correctly to your PC input/output pls. check the whole connection.
If after doing these things your speaker works pls. don't forget to rate me. Thanks!

No sound

I FOUND THE SOLUTION (at least for the led text blinking in and out with no sound).

It's the Altec's Circuit board!!!. If you take it all apart (not too hard) and within the circuit board where you plug in all your connectors (i.e. speakers, computer jack, etc.) , take it all out. Once you open the casing, you will find a couple connectors with wires (yellow, blue, green) plugged onto the board. Unplug both connectors on the board. (Careful!, one of the connectors, smaller one, are glued onto the board, but what I did was cut it off using a blade (box cutter)). After you take it apart, there will be two pieces of circuit board facing each other, one top (small), one bottom (big) (where all your speakers plug in to). On the top board (smaller one) wipe up the "rust" looking stuff on the back of the PCB board with little damp cloth. After you get most of it off, it will work again.

(How you know if it's the top of bottom is how the capacitors are working.

WOO HOO!!! I love these speakers!!!

Also, if your bass is weak, I found on another forum that it's the capacitors. Get those replaced at a local electronic repair shop. Find them on Google maps.

Please let me know if this works for everyone. THANKS!
