I have similar problem. I tried to clean the cartridge golden contacts with a q-tip and some alcohol. Also tried to dip the print head cartridge in hot water (worked before...).
So far, no success.

    Hi,
    Problem was solved !!!
As mentioned, I used a q-tip with alcohol and carefully cleaned the golden contacts on the printer head and cartridge. Then I dipped the cartrige in a hot water bowl, leaned the drained ink with a papertowel , waited for 24 hours, and that's it !

Hello, first unplug the the printer and take out the cartridges, first dab them on a wet paper towel until the ink start flowing, then take a q-tip dipped in alcohol and where u insert the cartridges, clean the print heads, replace the cartridges and power up. If that doesn't help it you have bad cartridges.

Service error 5100

Unplug for 30 seconds then replug, clean the cartridge's contacts, check and make sure the encoder strip is not out of place behind the carriage. Do a full cleaning of the print head manually:

(1) Open the printer
(2) Remove the ink cartridges from the print head.
(3) Use cotton swabs dipped in hot water to thoroughly clean the print head.
(4) Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab.
(5) Once finished, allow to dry and replace the cartridges
(6) Try to print something now

If none of that works, most likely you need a new print head.

My caanon pixma 130 has full ink cartridge but prints very light

You can try this steps..

cartridges out of the printer..take a small plastic container and boil some water then put just enough boiling water in the container to cover the bottom just a touch more then take the cartridge and dip it in and out of the hot water a few times and do the paper towel dip again. The hot water will break up any dry ink in the cartridge head.

If your cartridge has an electronic board on it use 99% isopropyl alcohol and a Q tip and apply it to the cartride board and don't use the tip use the side of the Q tip and apply a bit of pressure, not only will you clean the contacts but you will evaporate the water that got on the board then wait 5 minutes and try it in the printer.

The orange light on pixma iP4300 is flashing 5 times. I have cleaned the printhead (gold contacts) with alcohol PJ

Use cotton swabs dipped in hot water or a mixture of hot water and isopropyl alcohol
Use it to clean the print head and the electronic contacts on each ink cartridge
Once done, allow to dry and try again
If the error still persists, you have a damaged print head which needs to be replaced with a new one
Hope this help!

My Canon Pixma MP130 keeps giving me the 5100 error. Can't even complete the nozzle print test. The ink cartridges do not appear to be jammed as they move. What is the problem? Please help.

Turn off printer.
Remove both the cartridges from the printer. Use a clothe moistened with alcohol to clean the surface contact on the cartridges where the terminals inside the printers touches.
Return the cartridges and turn on the printer.

Error 5100 means that the cartridge can not be detected by the printer.

Hope it helps!

My printer says "cartridge jammed" and wont print! HELP!

Have you removed and replaced the cart with a new one? If that hasn't fixed it, you may be looking at goo in the cartridge area. You can often use a swab (Q Tip) soaked in alcohol to clean this up.
