Hello there tls2004.

Here's your geek-steer ...

Contact in order:

  1. Vendor from which you purchased your system.
  2. ASUS Support.
It will likely cost you though. However, ask for a break (free) "in the nature of good-customer relations", and how "impressed and appreciative" you'd be (particularly if recently aquired). You won't know unless you try. It works more often than you'd imagine. Especially if vendor, and they have an unnecessary extra just lying about.

Good luck, and thanks in advance for posting back ...
  • to let me (and others) know how things worked out,
  • if you have any further questions,
  • to provide clarification or feedback.

    @ Dycontim

I genuinely appreciate your taking the time to reply and letting me (and others) know how things worked out ... so far. I say "so far" because by your replying, it gives me an opportunity to offer some more comprehensive follow-up/suggestions.

First, I'm curious: why the concern about your disk(s) at this time? Are you in need of taking recovery actions?

    == ASSESSMENT ==

Per this spec sheet, the following optical disks accompanied your system:

    • Windows Vista Recovery CD

    • 2Drivers and Utilities CD

    • 3Power2Go 6.0 Burning Software CD

    Which disk is troubled?

    • If "Recovery". Likely all its capabilities will be the same ones found on your hard-drive's ASUS recovery area (look for the key to push to enter its facility at the initial boot-up sequence ... if too fast to review/read, pushing your "Pause/Break" key at the right moment will provide relief). In which case, the CD was provided in the event your system is ever unable to boot-up from the hard-drive.

    • If "Drivers and Utilities". You can live without it, as all necessary (and possibly more up-to-date) drivers are avail from the manufacturer's support website. As for whatever utilities it contains, there are many freeware alternatives capable of doing same, or better.

    • If Power2Go. Likely just a cross-promotional limited version of this burning software ... who cares!

This option is a definite must-try, as it is not destructive in any way (i.e., zero risk).

Many times an optical disk which is unreadable from a drive may still be recoverable by creating a "disk image" (e.g., ISO) of it. The software used may be able to deep-read it out and/or "fill-in-the-blanks" (if you will) of the hopefully minor unreadable/missing gaps. You can do this using whatever disk/image burning software you may have (e.g., Nero, DeepBurner, etc.). If that's a "WTF" coming out of your thought bubble, get yourself imgBurn and/or Ashampoo Burning Studio Free ... both are very capable freewares. If you can squeeze out a functional ISO, then just burn that ISO to a CD using the very same software, test it, and if you're lucky enough, you're back in business.

Unlike above, this option may certainly be destructive, depending upon the method(s) used.

There are as many (more actually) responses to the question, "What's the best advise on cleaning/recovery of optical disks?", as there are respondents. Google it and you'll see.

I have my opinions and feelings, but I'm wise enough to know they are all based on my own anecdotal evidence. I've yet to find the definitive, comprehensive, scientifically based, and trusted guide that covers this subject with authoritative certainty. I'll leave it up to you to review the myriad of guides, suggestions and checklists, then make your own determinations.

Hoping this further helps you out.

Good luck, and thanks in advance for posting back ...

Asus x83v won't boot up

Unplug the machine, remove battery, leave the battery out, plug in the machine, try to boot normally. If the fails unplug, plug in, push the on/off button and IMMEDIATLY start tapping the F-11 REPEATEDLY. Enter restore/recovery section select a date before this problem started and restore. If that fails do a system recovery to factory settings. Or if you have a Windows Vista repair disk, Windows Vista Install disk that you can use to repair

ASUS M51SN Matshita BD UJ-120 burner does not work - Windows 7

You need to install windows 7 (32 bit) not 64. To change to 64 you have to make internal changes and updates to your notebook. Your notebook is set up for 32 bit systems.

Asus notebook windows 7 totally frozen..."not responding" Can't even exit without holding power off.

This is due to the fact that your ASUS Eee PC 701 PC does not offer minimum System requirements to run windows 7

Microsoft has published their minimum specifications for a system running Windows 7
  • 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1 GB RAM (32-bit) / 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
  • 16 GB available disk space (32-bit) / 20 GB (64-bit)
  • DirectX 9 graphics processor with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

But I suggest following as min to run smoothly

  • A Dual Processor (AMD or Intel) – you can use a lower Celeron or Pentium Processor, but you will regret it

  • 2 GB RAM (operating memory) – you can use less, but you will regret it

  • 16 GB available disk space and another 20 to 30 GB if you plan on running applications

  • A Vista compatible graphics card (DirectX 9 graphics process with WDDM 1.0 or higher)

  • A Vista compatible sound card

  • Vista drivers for any other unique hardware you have on or connected to your computer

If this helps please do leave a vote and rate for the solution.

MP210 driver does not work with ASUS LAPTOP WITH Vista

On Canon's support page for this printer PM210 Support there are 3 different driver files available. One is for XP and Vista 32-bit systems, one for XP 64-bit systems, and one for Vista 64-bit systems. If you know what system you have select it in the drop down menu and download and install it.
