HP C4385 display reads Paper Jam continuously

The printer reads paper jam and started suddenly in the middle of the print job. I have also noticed the carriage seems to move and rest to the left where it should be resting to the right. When I press the button the printer will feed paper but th epaper gets snagged on the right side as it gets eaten, I've watched paper throught the rollers and it comes out okay, I believe this issue is a problem with the back cover that flips the paper.
I could be wrong on these but I could really use the help. Our printer is 65 days out of warranty and HP was unable to help.
