When I try to install a Vista 32bit driver for the CX5000 All-In-One Epson
Scanner (downloaded from Epson), I get the following message:
Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your
device. Windows found driver software for your device, but encountered an
error while attempting to install it. EPSON CX4900/CX5000/DX5000. The
system cannot find the file specified.
I have tried every possible way to install this driver with no success. I
have even downloaded the driver numerous times to try again. Epson tech rep
tried, too, but gave up and told me to contact Microsoft.
The downloaded Vista driver for the printer portion of the Epson CX5000
installed correctly. Only the scanner driver didn't install properly.

if you are downloading the combo package driver, and your having an issue. thats normal. combo package driver of epson usually have issues, so they suggest to download the driver separately. since you already download the scanner, download the driver and make sure that you select the right driver, because there are 2 types of windows 7, 32bit and 64 bit, if you are downloading 32 and you have 64, it wont work and vice versa, so double check.
download the driver from this link according to your os.
From Epson FAQ:
Does Epson have Microsoft Vista 64-bit drivers available for my scanner?
Currently, we do not have Microsoft Vista 64-bit drivers available for your scanner. However, you may be able to use the VueScansoftware from Hamrick; it supports Microsoft Vista 64-bit. Please visit the Hamrick web site for more information. http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html
Not tried it yet as I don't have 64 bit installed (my research is in preperation)...
3.) Ones it is downloaded and installed to your computer., try to launch epson scan ( if same issue persist )
>> On the Device Manager (Vista) if the Epson Scanner is listed under "Other Devices" -- with a yellow " ! " < right click on it and click on update driver., make sure that the option selected is " Install the software automatically (Recommended) and then press next > ..... you may need to restart your computer after this procedure..
>> Then try to scan again
Note >> if a pop on your computer for ( New hardware Found ) just ignore it / close it., after the scanner driver is installed it will go away.....
Cant find such a scanner, are you sure of the model "performance", If it is not Vista compatable, ie if Epson have not released a Vista driver, then it is not going to work with Vista.
See Epson web and download driver if available, if not change scanner or operating system or purchase software
Check your Epson product CD to see if it already contains Windows Vista drivers. If the CD indicates support for Windows Vista, follow the instructions that came with your Epson product to install your driver and other software.
If your Epson CD does not indicate support for Windows Vista, DO NOT INSERT YOUR EPSON PRODUCT SOFTWARE CD IN YOUR WINDOWS VISTA COMPUTER because the setup program is not compatible with Windows Vista. Instructions for installing additional software from your CD may be available with your driver download.
Note: If you already have ArcSoft PhotoImpression™ 5 installed on your Windows Vista computer, you may need to install a "patch" program. Go to the ArcSoft website to download and install the patch.
Products that are not Vista compatable are not capatable with Vista, who would figure hey!!
