Did you store the camera in March with batteries inside?
If the answer is yes , then the aging batteries may have caused the contacts where the batteries sit to rust. You should verify this by removing the batteries and shining a torch down the hole where the batteries sit. The contacts should be sparkling silver. if they appear dull or have a brown coating, you should clean them by using a small screwdriver covered with a small piece of cloth . the piece of cloth should have been immersed in a solvent e.g. gasoline(petrol),ethyl alcohol, isopropanol(isopropyl alcohol). Please dont use water as it will only lead to more rusting of the contacts.Clean the contacts until they again sparkle. You may also have to apply scraping action directly with the screw driver on the contacts taking care not to break them. Dont forget to clean the contacts on the batteries also before reinserting them.
Keep me posted.
P.S handle solvents carefully. Most of them are inflammable and have a corrosive effect.

Camera does not start even with new batteries

Your camera will work with AA batteries.
Always be sure the batteries are charged.
Insert the batteries correct plus to plus and minus to minus. Only one battery the wrong way around and the camera won't work. Check contacts of the batteries and in the battery compartment of your camera. Dirty or oxidised contacts can be cleaned with a dry cloth. Never use sharp tools to clean contacts or anything in or on your camera.
Always charge the batteries before using it for the first time, or if you have not used it for a long period. 3 months is a very long period.
Also check if the battery door is closed correct. Most cameras do have a switch connected to the battery door. If the switch does not work correct, it could be you can't switch on your camera.
Do not use alkaline batteries unless it is absolutely necessary. In some cases, alkaline batteries may have a shorter service life than NiMH. Alkaline battery performance is limited, especially at low temperatures. The use of NiMH batteries is recommended.
Never use manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries in your camera. They can't deliver enough power and can start leaking, causing damage to your camera.

New battery but still wont swith on

Be aware the Kodak Lithium CRV3 battery can't be recharged. Even if you have a charger where the battery can be connected to, it is dangerous to do so. It is an non rechargeable battery, and putting a current through the battery can overheat the battery and it even can explode. You never can get any electrical charge in that battery.
But your camera can be used with rechargeable AA NiMH batteries.
You need two and they can be chafed on most commercial (cheap) battery chargers. I do advice to buy a good brand of batteries, because even the better ones will only set you back 15 or 20 dollar. Sometimes you even can buy a set of 4 batteries, with charges (I advice the set) for little more.
When having a set of 4, still try to keep 2 sets of 2 batteries, that you always use together. On set in the camera one as spare.

When you do have new batteries, and the camera still won't switch on, carefully check is all contacts in then camera are clean and shiny. New batteries should have shiny contacts.
Contact can be cleaned with a dry cloth. Never use any sharp tool in or close to a camera. Scratches on a contact will cause oxidation and the camera will be damaged in a short time.

My Samsung WB100 turns off after switch on. Got new batteries and same problem plus 'old' batteries are still good even though camera said they needed replacing after a few days minimal use.

Make sure you are using name brand high quality batteries and not some generic from China. Camera require a great deal of power to boot up.

Showing battery low

hi anjali,
i think the problem must be with the replacement of the CCD chip. they must have must some damage to the cam with out their knowledge. but the thing is you cant even claim that with Sony. you must have took it right next day.
that too if you are in india you cant expect the service people to get these things fixed so soon. you must have been attentive.

Camera wont turn on even with new batteries.

I have the same problem as well. I have had my camera for a bout 2 years. The first time this happened was in March 2007. We had been using regular AA batteries, then we decided to go lithium and bamm! The camera started working. I was elited. Then in the beginning of December 2007, it let me take one last picture and then it wouldn't come on again. The lithiums wouldn't even work. We recently took it to a camera shop and they suggested the same as the other posts. I think it would be cheaper just to buy another camera and I think there should be a recall on this camera, if there are so many other customers having the same issue. I really did enjoy it while it lasted, though.
