Re: Bad video Convergence problem

Not likely, more like you have a resister or cap causing it to burn up
there are 6 resister that rang from 1.2 -3.9 ohms pull them out of the circuit and try again, also note that if you buy cheap stk's you may not be getting originals, purchase them from MCM electronics or reputable place

Colored lines at top and bottom when tv comes on and seeing double vision in different colors at all times

If your tv is not a DLP the problem is in the convergence, try to adjust it using your original remote control go to the setting menu then to the convergence section. Adjust the red and blue convergence. you should move the red and the blue in up, down and left, right if this color does not move far enough your convergence IC is already defective. Replacing this convergence IC will solve the problem. In locating this convergence IC you should remove the back cover of your unit but be sure to unplug it before doing this. This convergence IC is attached to a large aluminum plate, it is the heat sink, and it has a marking of stk- ### followed by numbers. You can try to pull it out using a soldering iron and soldering pump but be careful you may damage the board and cause much problem to your unit. Or you can contact a technician to do it for you and save you from stress good day and best regards.

What happened when TV is blurry with double vision and picture is not linear

Good day!

First of all, before you proceed to the minor/major troubleshooting try to check first the cable signal and connection of it,if you are cable subscriber or play any movie to your TV to make sure that the problem is on your TV or on the signal.

If you already play the movie and the problem is still there.

follow this procedure of troubleshooting to fix that problem:

  1. Remove the back cover by loosening all screws.
  2. After you open the cover, look for the convergence I.C-it is the one that have heat sink and stand on vertical position. The part # of that I.C is usually starts with the letter STK####.
  3. That convergence I.C controls the images and graphics.Replace it and check the resistors and other components near that I.C.Use a soldering iron and soldering ****** to replace the parts or components and multimeter tester (range on resistance).
  4. If you already replace the convergence I.C and check some component near that.Plug-in and power ON again to test if it is successful.
NOTE: Always double check the solder parts when you replace any parts or components to avoid short circuit or major damage.

I hope this solution will be helpful to fix your problem.Thank you and good luck.

Convergence problem

Usually what happens is that the convergence IC goes bad or the fuse going to the convergence ic goes bad. Pico fuses they are called sometimes open up. You may want to open it up and pull the board out and check the solder connections on the convergence IC. Sometimes these get fractured or cold soldered and aren't making connection to the PC board.
Let me know if you feel comfortable with pulling TV chassis out or pulling the board that has the convergence IC on it out. Then you can resolder convergence IC OR replace it.First thing i would do is check to make sure there is between 22vdc and 25vdc on the fuse or the convergence IC. Let me know if this helps out any.... Sincerely HDTV GURU JAY

The colors in my tv are overlapping and picture is wavy that cannot be solved with adjusting the manual converge function and got worse when I tried restore manufacture settings

Bad STK392-120 convergence IC. You need to replace 2 both and also check feedback/return resistors. Convergence IC is located on large signal board with a big heatsink. :)

I have a model av48p776 jvc I am getting jitter lines across the screen more often than not and the bright comes and goes what do I need to do to fix it I would hate to get rid of the TV I just bought it

JVC AV48P776 Jitter and Brightness Varies

Check for convergence failure. Convergence Gallery Try adjusting convergence in user menu. If convergence display is messed up or adjustments do not work correctly, you have an Intermittent short circuit within an STK IC.

Look at menu screen with an unused input (antenna or video). If menu is stable and clear, TV may be OK and you may have a signal input problem.

If it is not poor quality input signal or convergence problem, someone has to troubleshoot to determine if it is a Video, Processing, Power supply or CRT related problem.

Most likely convergence.

Mitsubishi convergence IC replacement: this applies to sets that use (2) STK-392-570

The Idea here is to get the Middle Circuit board out so you can replace the Convergence Ic’s.

HERE is what you will need: (most of this you can buy on the internet or at local electronics stores)

Two new: STK-392-570 CONVERGENCE IC’S
One good soldering iron
De soldering braid or wick
Liquid flux
Heat sink compound (grease)
Denatured alcohol
One short Philips screwdriver
One small clean toothbrush
One electric screw gun to REMOVE screws

Turn the set on and examine the picture for how the Convergence looks bad---when you are done examine it again---once in a great while you will get and install a new IC that is bad. Remember this when you have finished—if the convergence is still bad but different from what you started with you may have installed a new I.C. that was bad. Turn the Set off.

  1. Unplug set.
  2. Remove back cover.
  3. Remove front speaker grill and inspection plate behind it.
  4. Remove the 2 or 3 black screws that go thru the back edge of the plastic frame that hold the chassis down.
  5. Where all the video and audio jacks are on the right edge of them you will see a diagonal plastic (Black) remove the two brass screws from the outside edge, remove another to the right bottom and a third smaller screw forward and to the left; remove plastic piece and all four screws and set them aside.
  6. Look carefully at main board in center of the set.
  7. You will find a number of screws hold it into the plastic frame.
  8. Towards the left back edge of this (to the right of the plastic you removed) you will find a metal cover with a small screw on either end. It has a lot of round holes punched in it.
  9. Remove both screws and pull the shield up and off---remove the board beneath it by releasing the two tabs on the bottom right side and pulling the board out—handle it with care as it is the digital convergence board that stores the set’s memory of adjustments. Set it aside
  10. At this point you need to pull the entire Chassis back at least a few inches---If it does not slide back look for a plastic latch on either side near the front of it. Some sets have the latches on the left or right side—black plastic tabs that lift up.

The red convergence cannot be corrected

There are two ic that should be replaced in convergence. It is like doing your breaks on your car you should do both sides. the parts are only 30. dollars.there are differant kinds for each model
stk 392-150 or stk392-040 so on the part you need will be on the convergence .make sure you check the resistor around convergence ics if they are burned you have to replace them to.
a tv shop charges around 300.00 to fix this repair
good luck

Right side convergence

A convergence IC has burned out. If I remember correctly, those Pioneer sets have one huge convergence IC, but that IC only has 5 channels in it so they use another smaller dual STK IC and one half of it is used for the 6th channel and the other half is the vertical output. Look on the convergence board, find the blue convergence jack, identify the blue horizontal channel, follow the traces and replace the IC handling the blue horizontal channel.
