Question about Philips 150S (White) 15" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Screen size The only problem is with Ubuntu really. Whenever Ubuntu is installed, the screen output from Ubuntu is too large for the monitor. To see all of Ubuntu I have to scroll left to right and top to bottom to be able to read all the screen. Changing the screen resolution to 1024x768 doesn't help. On the contrary under Ubuntu the screen goes black, just jams! The only solution was to move to other Linux distros like Damn Small Linux, Mandriva, Suse who would have no problem with the screen. The latest one I'm using is Fedora 10. Which should be related to Ubuntu, but does not have any problem with the 150S screen. Anyone at Ubuntu who can figure this out maybe?

Tip

Set Default Windows Font to 120 DPI for use with a large HD Monitor

Most users have either a 17" TFT montior OR an older CRT of the same size which works really well on the default 96 DPI and a screen resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels OR the default 1024 x 768

However if you have a larger HD Monitor that will allow for a much higher pixel definition in line with 1080i and 1080p Televisions you might need to increase the DPI to 120 or some other custom setting to do this you need to right click the desktop and navigate to;

Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > General and you will see the pulldown menu to change it to Large Size.

It may ask you for the Windows CD however the files that are required should already be there unless you installed the Operating system from a minimized set of cabinet files on a slipstreamed CD.

I have a samsung 510m lcd monitor when i plug the vga cable it shows "not optimized mode 1024x768"

Your computer's video-card is outputting 1024-by-768 video,
but your monitor would prefer to receive its "native" resolution,
e.g., 1280-by-1024 or 1920-by-1280.

Change the settings on your computer's video-card.
Note that this could make the text on the screen VERY small!

Or, just ignore the message, if the "large" size of text on the screen is easier for you to read.

Using as a duo monitor. when transfering screen image to it, the screen is extremely too large . How do I reduce the size?

Increase the resolution of the monitor with the really large image. Also, in vista and windows 7, go to display and there should be a button to reduce the size of whats on the screen.

Did you try booting from the Ubuntu cd and ran the desktop live cd demo ? That will bypass the windows drivers and uses ubuntu stuff only so if that worked your instal should have worked. It sounds like it doesn't like your video card as a guess.

I've never had that problem in a install but I would bet they have on the ubuntu support forum.

I think you will be able to get your answer there. If you can't find it using the search ( I tried. didn't) then post it and give a bit more info such as ubuntu version, and so on. Lots of good help there. Once you get it running you will be quite happy with it.
