You will need to visit the Compaq website and download the audio drivers for your computer. The audio drivers can also be found on the CD disk that came with your computer.
When on the Compaq website click their downloads/support button and search for the audio drivers using the model number of your computer.

Take care!

Go to the family dollar they have those wires that have both male ends. It is meant for ipods, and mp3 players so you can connect them to modern stereos that have inputs like that. I bought sevel of them because they are very usefull for about a few bucks each.

Compaq 5000 series JBL speakers

Hi Shockme17, sorry for late response I have been away. Gently remove the frame holding the material speaker cover by pulling it off from the top (the material speaker cover is just a push fit on the main body of the amp/speaker). Don't use any implement, you may damage the cover. Once you have worked the cover off iy will expose 4 screws holding the unit together. Remove those & the unit splits into two parts. JeffuH

JBL PLATINUM SERIES SPEAKERS

It is possible, but you may run into a problem with the amplification to be able to hear the speaker. Without knowing exactly what your setup is the best I can say is to attempt to hook them up to your headphone jack and see how well they work. If you don't hear anything, you need an amplifier. If you hear a distorted sound, but volume is not an issue, use the line out jack and see if it is any better.
