Sony Vaio VGN-FZ21M screen problem

Hi, I have had a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ21M laptop for a little more than 1 year. In the last couple of weeks I started to get intermittent screen problems. Initially the colours (mainly the blue) started flickering, then at times the whole screen started showing jumbled trembling horizontal bars so that you could't read the display at all. This lasts from a couple of minutes to 10-20 mins or more at a time.

This happens on and off at times, but is getting more frequent. Any help on what might cause it and how I go about solving it would be greatly appreciated!

    I have contacted Sony thinking its a problem with their NVidia chip
    , ) .
    Sony have released an announcedment that they will fix for free all
    affected VAIOs less than 4 years old. However, they said that there is
    no problem with the NVidia chip, and it's a problem with the screen.
    After a year and a half of use, it seems I will have to get another
    laptop and don't buy from Sony anymore.

    I 'd never-ever buy a Sony again - Problem with the Nvidia Graphics in my sony vaio VGN-FZ21M. Too much of a fuss to try to get a replacement - Never same mistake twice!

I have hp pavilion dv2500 laptop. I am facing issues. It display error with blue screen. The content is ," Hardware Malfunction. Call your hardware vendor for support. NMI: Parity check/Memory Parity Error."
Some blue colored horizontal lines are flickring in the screen while booting the windows..I have windows Vista Home Premium OEMAct india Hp. Please help me..My email is id My laptop warrenty has been over now few weeks ago.

Hi, I have the same problem with my Sony Vaio VGN FZ21. I started checking the web and found so many postings with the same garphic card and screen problem. After two weeks Sony returned my worked for one day, now the same problem again. Today DHL picked up my notebook to be repaired again. I have now forwarded my official claim, made 24 phonecalls in 2,5 weeks. The Dutch Consumer Law organisation is aware also and if necessary they will step in, my deadline is Friday February 26. I still have some interesting stories related to their after-service, it's amazing that a big company like Sony delivers the worst quality I have ever experienced when having problems with something I purchased. I have been in contact with 8 persons now, 2 were helpful and tried.
Solving a complaint creates loyal customers. I don't have the impression yet this will happen to Harald! .
My advice to all of you out there who think of buying a Sony aware that they have confirmed they have a serious problem with their graphic cards / screens. The usual two year warranty has been changed into 4 years. Why would you do that? That's done when you know your product does not have the quality it should have.
Let's see how this ends, I will keep you all updated.

Hey there...i have a similar problem with my VGN FZ21M!!
In fact, it's more like Red & Blue vertical lines and my windows Vista, as an unbelievably OS full of problems it is, sometimes couldn't log in successfully (maybe once every 10 reboots). So i tried to format my computer, convincing myself that it's maybe a vista problem (or a windows virus), but unfortunately, since then i can't use my laptop anymore and i'm sure that it's a hardware problem. Though, the problem i have is more graphical than anything else but i'm a little bit convinced that it's a RAM problem because one day i got a message: "NMI: Parity Check/Memory Parity Error". Does anyone had this same problem so i can be sure that it is a memory problem??
Any help/advise is welcomed...

    Thanks jignatiadis for ur reply...i'm a little bit furious against Sony and their attitude facing this problem after i checked the link u've indicated. I've never thought when buying my FZ21M that i'll face the same problem i've once had with my old "Futjistu Siemens" laptop!! At the end, the only difference between Sony VAIO and Futjitsu Siemens, Acer or Asus is that Sony is much much more expensive than the others. What a **** this sony vaio is!! :@

    As for me, i won't pay more than 500€ for a laptop anymore. They are all the same!!

I have a Sony Vaio vgn fz21m and everytime i plug it in, the screen goes dim (backlight dies). I tried adjusting the brightness and all but it just won't light up. The interesting part is that on...

1. Goto Control Panel\System and Security\Power Option
2. Click Change plan settings
3. Adjust plan brightness. Just play with the slider on the "plugged in" part.

Sony Vaio VGN-FZ21M.3 years old, can not find suitable drivers for graphic card. Can you find. Regards from sweden

scroll down to the one you may need

i hope you can find a suitable driver you should be able to unless you have changed the original operating system to something else

another option is to click on here and use the scanner to detect your system and they might offer you a newer graphics driver

it could be a glitch in your start up change boot to f12 the rerun windows when asked.

Hi there.
Choose "LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION" if it still won't boot up try "SAFE MODE" and perform a system restore and take the computer back a week or so.
