Question about Breville Kitchen Appliances - Others

Left-hand section only toasts on one side

Had 4 slices of bread in to toast, pushed down the lever and a few minutes later all the power in the house went. When I restored the power supply, the toaster wasn't working in the left-hand toasting section. Bread only gets toasted on one side, so I think fuse of some sort has blown.
Any help would be appreciated.

The heating resistor on the left side has shorted with the case. Since you don't know very much on electrical equipment (to fix it you would have to open it, remove the shorted piece of wire, reattach all and insulate them properly) and the price of a new item is low, just buy a new one and discard this one. You shouldn't use it again, under no circumstances - if you're unlucky it can kill you.

SOURCE: Black & Decker T-1029 2-slice Toaster - lever broken

Main problem with these is crumbs, they get stuck between the 2 surfaces of the small electromagnet that keeps the lever down, consequently it does not stick anymore, try drop kicking it in the drection of the garbage can, this sort fright may just scare it into working again.

SOURCE: Only toast one side of the bread

This would be an electrical problem, if you can open up the toaster and find the main cord, then try to fix it from there, if you can not open it up, then you may need to replace it

SOURCE: only toasts part of bread

The solution I got from the FixYa team was: "Get a new toaster." Which is how I ended up with 4 new toasters that don't work. I'm glad I didn't PAY for THAT answer.

It sounds like the heating coil is not getting power on the side that is not toasting. Return the unit to the retailer that you purchased it from and get a different model or a refund.

Constant use can lead to crumbs clogging the path of the lever. Try opening up the bottom panel, by pulling on the metal tab to release the plate (and crumbs!) over a trash can. Also try flipping the toaster upside down and, very gently, shaking the crumbs out. if that doesn't work, you can try checking the toaster's browning dial. This might be too low to activate the heating coil. Try dialing it up, and pushing the lever down again. I hope this helps. You can check our post on Best ways to use a Toaster oven. I have no experience with the deLonghi toaster but in my experience automatic toaster all work in similar ways since they went electronic - toasters were about the first to do that.

Pressing the lever down against the spring pressure also presses an internal switch that sends current to the heating element as well as to the electronics that control an electromagnet, the purpose of which is to keep the mechanism engaged until the toast is brown enough and then the current to the magnet will be cut by the browning brain and the toast pops up.

If removing any crumbs from inside by inverting it and giving it a good shake and then pressing the lever a few times fairly vigorously doesn't make it work then nothing short of surgery will make it work so returning it will be the only realistic option.

The fact that pressing down the lever fails, means the toaster contact will not function and can not be repaired. Since a two slice toaster is only $15 at Target, why bother fixing a toaster?

When i push down the lever it doesn't stay down

remove the housing & you will probably notice the 2 ceramic pieces are burned out. (They maybe plastic) But these are the 2 pieces and the 2 long metal contact points that come together when the lever is pushed down. The 2 metal contact strips come together & make the eletronic connection to start the heating process. let me know if you find the parts.

Duraband 4 slice toaster manual model # TS-5221

if u need a manual for a toaster, then u r really in trouble...espcially for the amt of money u paid for it.
ok...
if u need instructions on how to use a toaster...here goes:
When:
A toaster is used to heat slices of bread, bagels, waffles, etc. to a hot, crispy consistency. Most toasters allow the user to set the toasting length to ensure the toasted bread comes out to temperature and crispiness to the user’s likes.
Where:
Toasters should be used on a flat, uncluttered surface near an electrical outlet but far from sinks, or running/standing water.
How:
To toast bread in a toaster, follow these instructions:

1. Place slices of toast, one each, in the slots on the top of the toaster.

2. Find the toast setting (a knob or lever) and adjust to the desired wellness of the toast. (Generally, there is a scale printed near the knob or lever ranging from light to dark toast).

3. Push down the toasting lever (moving the slices of bread down into the toaster between the heating elements.

4. When the toast is finished, the slices will “pop” up automatically.

5. Remove the toast from the toaster.
WARNING:
If the bread should get stuck inside the toaster, DO NOT PUT ANYTHING INSIDE THE TOASTER in attempt to dig it out. UNPLUG the toaster, turn it upside down and shake. If the toast does not fall out, use a plastic fork or knife to gently remove it from the toaster. Using metal utensils could damage the heating elements. NEVER stick anything in the toaster while it is plugged in.
*For further safety, it is recommended that the toaster be unplugged after each use.
I wish u luck and happy toasting.
