Welcome Tony

Looks like you got a bad plunger that could be so full of dried ink or just clogged. you could by a printer service kit and see if that shores it up if not the plunger would need to be replaced..

Put new black canon 3-e ink in canon Pixma ip 5000 black line of print have a white horizontal stripe through center. I don't seem to have a repair utility t o clean heads and align. Mac OS 10.4.11

The clean heads option should be in the Preferences/Maintenance tab where you go to do other things, e.g. alignment, ink counter reset, etc. If you cannot see this, you mmay need to reinstall the driver for the printer. You could also ask Canon. Finally, if the catridge is a refill or compatible, try a genuine Canon black cartridge.

The print head is clogged.Try to unclogging manualy.Open the cover and first remove the ink cartridges. Then open the holder and remove the print head.Run hot tap water and put the print head with the nozzles up to stream water.Hold that 5 mins then turn the print head around
with the nozzles down.Hold that for every color of 5 mins. Then put the print head in hot water with the nozzles down.Left it water about 15 mins and then you must very nice to dry. When the print head dry put it in printer and start cleaning. If this not help you need to replace the print head. It's part number is QY6-0054.

MAGENTA NOT PRINTING

The other week I had the black print head clog up, requiring daily nozzle deep cleaning [a normal 'ocassional' maintenance function]. Thought I needed a new Print head, so anything worth a try.
I loaded up an old black cartridge [I load all my own......always have] with Isopropyl Alcohol and ran deep clean on that cartridge a couple of times, then repeat printed [6 times] a page full of the number 8 in about half inch character size, to get the alcohol through the nozzles. then Deep cleaned again 3 times, to wash it through the print head.

I reloaded the normal ink filled cartridge and ran the '8' page again till I got good black output. It has now been working without problem, daily, for over a week. Clearly if it's a Magenta only problem, the cleaning as described above would be a bit different, as the magenta is one of 4 colour cartridges.
My printer does quite a lot of work, and was bought at least a couple of years ago, being used daily for alpha numeric and photo printing work. This was the first difficulty I experienced with it.
Hope the above might help.Ken

Canon Pixma IP5000 wont print cyan or magenta

Think you need to clean the sponge that the ink cartridges sit on in the head tray they are probably blocked with dry ink. You can remove the print head and tray by lifting the lever and gently lifting it out..... go here http://www.inkjethelper.com/
to see how to carefully clean it with compressed air. I had to do this too.

Canon ip 5000

Hello,
If the print head moves left and right smoothly on the paper as it is printing and all the other colors and black print is ok the surely the Print Head is faulty, get it replaced and your printer will be OK.

I have a Canon Pixma IP 5000 inkjet printer and am using Mac OS 10.3.9. It has 5 ink cartridges: 2 black (3e and 6) and one each yellow, magenta and cyan. I use it all day every day. After printing...

Thanks for getting back to me.
Sorry this ain't a solution but it seems to be the only cash-free way to contact you. No problem not solved - though I have tried everything. Dismantled the printer; washed, dried and replaced the waste ink pads; washed the print head; blew compressed air through the print-head sponge; replaced the cartridge 3 times; printed hundreds of test prints. I can't think of anything else to do and so I think the only solution is to replace the printhead (probably not even available) or replace the printer. The latter is looking most likely.
