Question about Microwave Ovens
The vent (also known as grill assembly in GE literature) comes off after removing the two screws at the top of the unit and gently sliding the entire assembly to the left about an inch. This will allow the vent to be cleaned of grease, hair, etc., as well as giving some access to the areas behind the vent.

If it is vented up through a cabinet no you can't usually remove the vent but you can clean the filters on the bottom. If it is a stand alone microwave unless you want to remove the cabinet that's the only way to clean any vents. But you can remove the cabinet by removing the screws in back and on the sides.
