just wondering have you tried to add new hardware to see if it locates the dvd\cd drive?

Take the drive out,start it up then shut it back down.Put the drive back in and restart it.If it still does'nt show the drive, the drive itself maybe bad or not set properly in the bios.Check in the bios to see if it shows it at all before taking the drive out.

First check if it is getting proper power. When you turn on the computer, do you see a blinking light on the Drive. Kindly check if the device is found in the BIOS, If it is not detected in the BIOS possibly check the data cable. If you have more than 1 drive make sure the jumper settings are correct.
