I'll have to power down then and check it out. Will come back to you. Please verify that I only pay $9.99 once. I'm a disability pensioner.

    Hi Jennifer,

You'd think with over 40 years computer experience & 50+ years electronics experience I'd have picked that one. Put it down to stress on my part. I'd just put together what must be the umpteenth 1,001 computers I've worked on over the years. Windows 7 Ultimate & NIS2010 working fine too. I also quite like openSUSE 11.1.

Anyway, I powered down, reversed the ports & all worked okay again.

I then powered down, put the ports back where there were originally & all now working as it should have been.

No bent pins. Only been caught on that once with a Zenith VGA monitor that weighed a ton.

Only clue was that both LEDs on the Amconn KVM122U were on simultaneously. It's much better than the KVM PS2 switch I used to use. I've a PS2 to KVM adapter as well for my Northgate OmniKey/Ultra keyboard.

Many thanks for fixing the problem & also for clarifying that it was $9.99 once only.

    cheers,

    Alan

Then I need to cancel my monthly subscription & pay you another $3.00. Can you fix & verify please? I'm a disability pensioner & can't afford & don't require monthly assistance.

  • caleula Oct 03, 2009

Have emailed FixYa & asked them to debit my Credit Card the extra $3.00.

Don't wish to close the problem until they confirm for me.

  • caleula Oct 03, 2009

Thanks Jennifer. I have already emailed FixYa & won't accept the thread as closed.

If that doesn't work I shall ask VISA to block monthly payments!

  • caleula Oct 07, 2009

    Thanks.

It was not a video problem but an Amconn USB KVM switch problem which has been resolved.

Jennifer720's solution was right on the money.

Hello
Try connecting to different USB ports on the computers to test.
If you have to press a certain key sequence on the keyboard then make sure that key doesn't get stuck.
Also make sure both PCs are on.
If all else fails it could be the device itself that has gone bad.

Good Luck
Please reply back if you still need help.

Try switching the video connections around to see if the connection on one part of the cable is bad. If computer number two reverts back (same issue as before) then the pins may have been damaged or bent. Check the pins inside of the VGA connector and make sure all the pins are there.

Yes, the $9.99 charge is a one time fee for being a premium member to Fixya.

Alan, just to clarify, that I am not a employee of FixYa, I just answer questions on the website and get paid three dollars for each correct one. I just wanted to clarify that. I checked the monthly subscription and it said $9.99 each month or $12.99 for one time solution. Before going any further, please, send an email to Fixa and ask them to switch the subscription to one time. Once they have done that, you can select that I helped you with your issue. Don't select that I helped you just yet, as this will probably make that subscription kick in. I hope I helped with your question to the charges and if you need any additional help, please let me know!

Monitor goes black for a few seconds

Try swapping the monitor cable from the working monitor to the other video connection on your computer. Effectively reversing the connections to isolate whether your problem is the video card in your computer or the monitor itself. If you find the working monitor displaying similar symptoms, then check your video drivers and ensure that you have all power saving features, screen savers, etc... turned off.

Sleep function holds for only a few seconds then reverts to normal

Are you using an optical mouse? If so, try turning it upside down before entering sleep mode. On some surfaces (with some mice only), the mouse picks up movement even if perfectly still.

GE 31GT740 clicks off and on

Dead, led flashing red/green at first, then going to red standby
Replace C604 (1000uF, 16v) elec. cap. It is in the decoupling circuit for the 5 volt supply
Reverts to standby from switch on via TV or Video
No 5v rail because FET MTP3055 o/c. (BUZ71 will do nicely)
Goes straight to standby, after a quick burst of power
Replaced R952 (39K), had gone slightly high
