You absolutely must send in the unit for repair. This is nothing for a consumer to tackle(and some techs! lol) Really tho, either the circuitry is damaged or an adjustment was shifted. There are PRECISE electronic and mechanical settings all working in delicate concert to give you that crisp image--and steady one. Heat, shock, vibration, age, and moisture all work towards causing a malfunction. Send the unit in directly to a repair facility and *not* through a store--unless under warranty. There are substantial charges that a store tacks on to the bill you see--not the actual repair cost. Hope I was of some help!---Rick

Connecting to computer & importing images from HD of DCR SR 42

Mine does the same thing. After it says "connecting" on the LCD of the camcorder, there is nothing to actually do on the camcorder. With the Sony SR42 software installed (supposed to come with the camcorder on purchase-but maybe you can also find it for free online), the software called Sony Picture Utility (which is part of the big packge of software) opens up automatically and offers to either burn your photos/videos to directly to a compact disc, or to import them onto the computer's harddrive.
That's how it happens for me.I'm not-tech savy or anything. Hope this helps.
