HP Officejet Pro 8500 - issue scanning and copying. It ignores whatever is on the glass or fed through the automatic document feeder and produces 3 vertical stripes - one black, one grey, one white, each is one third of the width of the page.
While the printer is on take a damp cloth and wipe the scanner glass and then open the automatic document feeder and clean the scanner glass there and then remove the cartridges and close down the printer now just pull out the power cable from the back of the product and if possible and the walljack wait for 30 secs and replug the printer first to the walljack and then to the printer, now try to scan....(if your printer is wireless then after the above you will have to run the wireless setup wizard again).if that doesn't work, try the same above but just before plugging the printer cable press and hold the power button,if that doesn't work do the same holding the #3 buttons,if this doesn't work then do the same holding down the #6 buttons,if even this doesn't work then call in to hp at 1800-474-6836 and get a replacement

It prints fine and altho I have turned off the colour (because I only really need to printn BW 99% of the time), that works too and the test page was fine. Occasionally it will scan fine, using the document feeder but about 80% of the time, I get stripes and I haven't managed to make it copy successfully yet (which chews up massive amounts of ink since it is printing an essentially black page.
Wow. How well does it print? Sounds like the controller is fried. ( the imaging part ). Does it print from a compter? ( just a few words in each color?) Does it print a test page ( look in the manual on how to do this ). Does the computer its taking to, have the ability to scan documents?
