This sounds like a protocol compatiblity problem with the medias you are using. Check the set-up for the audio in all the devices connected to the TV set. Some of the older recordings and medias must have the sound set to simple stereo or mono. If there is no digital 5.1 data on the media source there is no way you are going to hear the sound if the equipment is set to that mode.

SOURCE: i have my panasonic surround
Make sure you are in a "surround" mode. It might just be in a stereo mode now which is LF,RF, and sub. Since there is no model number, I'm going to guess, but most Panys have 2 buttons towrd the bottom. One labeled movies and the other music (or something similar). Press the movie button. Look for Dolby PLII, Dolby PLx, or something similar. If the video out of the unit is connected to the TV you can check the speaker levels. Some models will do a test tone to make sure all the speakers are connected and you have them in the right location. Some models even allow to chose between 3.1, 5.1, and 7.1. If this is a new unit it will default to the highest setting.

SOURCE: TC-P50GT25 Viera has no audio
In that case all you can do is connect each device you're connecting to the television to the surround sound. You would connect the device to the television for video only and connect the sound cables to the surround sound. You may also be able to connect the devices directly to the surround sound (video and audio) and then connect it to one of the television's inputs.
