What type of file is it that you are trying to open, sometimes you will see gobbledegook if your computer doesn't have the right program to handle a PC word processing and your mac doesn't have Microsoft Office installed. It also could happen with other type of file such as an image, video etc.

Open office can open a number of word documents:

Gimp for macintosh opens a lot of image files:

also if you know what type of file it is, try adding an extension to it by placing a dot then follow it by typing the filetype. For a word document type in .doc for instance

Still sounds to me like a file association problem here's more things you can try:

If you could post your problem on youtube that would be great so i can see what happens, but if not maybe you can give me a couple more details.

Here's a couple more things id like to know:

    1. What version of Mac Os are you using?

    2. Was the attachment created on a PC, do you have any idea what kind of attachment it is such as... picture, document, video

    3. does the file name have an extension the end of it such as .exe or .bat or .doc

    4. what email client do you use: hotmail, gmail, Microsoft Outlook

5.what does the icon of the attachment look like? does it have a picture, if so what does the picture look like on the icon?

IMac serial # removed from internal and external places? Have partial?

If you can boot up your iMac, you should be able to recover your serial number by clicking on the Apple icon in the upper left of the screen and selecting "About This Mac."

Your serial number will be there at the bottom of the window. Find your Mac serial number in About This Mac or System Information

How do I get an iMac running lion to read the installation CD for a Breother MFC-J615W printer?

You may need to set the preference so the disk shows up on the desktop. First click on the FINDER icon. THat is the icon in the dock that looks like a smiley face. Then click on the FINDER menu in the upper left corner and choose PREFERENCES. There are several check boxes, make sure you check the one for CDs. Your disk might appear on the desktop.
If there are other problems you can also download the driver and software for your model directly from brother.

I cant connect to safari or itunes in imac OS X. A question mark symbol appears in both icons, I am able to connect to internet via windows lap top however.

I am taking it when you talking about icons it is the ones in the dock. What I think is happening is these icons have lost their association with the relevant applications. To get rid of the icons click and hold down the icons in the dock and then drag them onto the desktop this will delete the icons not the applications from the dock.

Now go to your applications folder and check that itunes and safari are in the folder. Once you have found them just single click on them and then drag them onto the dock. This should correct the problem.

If the applications are not in the folder you will have to download them from apple site again and reinstal them. Then you can use the method above to put the icons back on the dock.

Hope this helps.

I bought an imac g 3350 . never had a mac before

Download your program. Make sure it is for YOUR OS. A .dmg should appear on your desktop when it is finished. Double click that. It should open a file with an application icon and a drive icon on the desktop. Open your applications folder from your hard drive, then drag the application icon to that. Eject the drive icon from the desktop by dragging it to the trash.

Hard disk icon disappeared from desktop

To add the hard disk icon back onto your desktop, first click the "Finder" button in the dock. It is the dark and light smily face icon at the end of the dock.

Next, click the "Finder" menu item at the top of the screen and then "Preferences". In the "Finder Preferences" window that opens, click the "General" button. From there you can select what system items appear on your desktop. You can click "Hard disks" to re-add the hard disk icon.

I recently purchased a new iMac OSX, 10.5.4. I purchased "Greeting Card Creator for Mac" from Borderbund and followed all the download instructions. The download file on my iMac shows that it...

Sad to say that FixYa did not fix my problem.  It was finally resolved when a Borderbund representative advised me that I had to install "Stuffit" before I could download the software.  I purchased Stuffit and subsequently have been able to download the Greeting Card Creator.
