Question about Creative Labs Zen Digital Media Player

I have a Zen MX adn i accidently dropped it, it

I have a Zen MX and i dropped it, it tells me that it has a firmware problem but i tried resetting it (pin to the reset button on the bottom). before i did that it only gave me a blank screen adn would not turn off and now it will go through the opening graphics (the word Creative then to Zen) then just give me a blank screen.. how can i fix this?

Try reflashing the firmware for your device you can find the latest firmware and flashing utilities from the manufacturer?s website. Make sure that you back your music up first because when you do this you are setting it back to factory settings.

My creative Zen screen will only display firmaware problem momentarily when the reset button has been hit and it is then turned on. HELP!


Try plugging it into your computer and updating it's firmware if possible. Or, if you know how, reset it to factory defaults and then re-update it.

( Resetting to factory defaults WILL erase all the music and media you have on it, but at least it may work again )

My mp3 player went blank but its still on


Creative knowledge base gives this answer for blank screen on a Zen MX:
White screens or blank screens could be easily resolved with a firmware reload. The following steps will take you through the troubleshooting steps.
  1. Reset your player and verify if the screen is able to display its contents
  2. Make sure that the player has fully charged battery
  3. Finally, perform the recovery tool if the screen still does not display any contents properly through the following site:

Im still having the same problem with my creative zen player


about this issue of creative zen wherein the device is not booting up to the normal os. and is not being detected by your computer, and giving you options to clean, reset, and format. my brother and i own creative zen, my brother own zen 4GB and i own 16gb. i don't have any problems at all. but my brother does. what i did is i just download the firmware version of my brother's zen that is missing which is version 1.03.04_0.6.1. unfortunately you will not find this firmware version at creative website.
i checked a website and i found this.

just perform this steps and you're good to go.

1. download the firmware for your zen.
2. connect your zen to your pc.
3. run the executable file (firmware).
4. just follow the on-screen instructions on your computer and you're good to go.

It wont Work :(


I would try to get into the recovery menu and see if you can run a clean up first (a clean up will not erase anything on the player).
To access the recovery menu
1. Detach the Zen player from your PC , and ensure that the Zen Sleek is turned off.
2. Connect the power supply to the player.
3. Hold down the Play/Pause button while inserting a paper clip into the Reset hole underneath your player, beside the data/power connector. Keep on holding the Play/Pause button while you release the Reset button. The Rescue Mode screen will then appear.
4. After the recovery mode has started, release the Play/Pause button.

Again if you can get into this menu, try a clean up first to see if that resolves the problem. Clean up should be the first option in the menu.

Mp3 zen not recognised by firmware


I think I can help.  I had a similar issue where the recovery tool would recognize my mp3 but the firmware would not.  This is what I did:    Turn on your Zen, Holding the power switch in the on position. While holding the Power switch on (very important), Reset the Zen by inserting a small object in the Reset hole on the bottom of the Zen (I used an earring). You will see a menu: Clean Up, Format, Reload OS/Firmware, Reboot. I decided to go down the list until something worked.  I ran Clean Up first and that didn't work for me, so I tried Format.  Note that this will remove all of your data.
Once Format runs, Reboot the MP3 player and plug it up to the computer. Run MP3 Recovery Tool. At this point, the firmware recognized my MP3 and installed successfully. Once installed, my computer recognized my Zen.

Creative Zen Firmware Problem


There's an updated firmware download: Firmware 1.32.01. Try downloading that.

Zen frozen on one screen even after I've restarted it.


hard drive sounds bad. has it been dropped?
try to do a cleanup
  1. Detach the Zen player from your PC , and ensure that the Zen Sleek is turned off.

It will display the following options.
Clean Up Scans the player and removes invalid links from its music library.
Does not affect music files themselves.
Format (All) Caution! Erases all content!
Save a copy of your player's content before formatting.
Reload OS/ Firmware Caution! Erases your player's firmware.
DO NOT select the Reload Firmware option unless you have access to a PC and you have downloaded the necessary firmware to install.
Reboot Reboots the device.
