Problem for Gateway ML3706 PC Notebook
My gateway laptop will not turn on when you push power button.

My gateway laptop will not turn on when you push the power button even though there is power to the machine and the screen works just fine,i get the light that i have power but no matter how hard you push the power button it will not turn on at all. The modle number for my computer in case anyone needs it is. ML3706

Pull the battery, and have it plugged into the wall. Sometimes the battery, if dead, can prevent a laptop from starting. True of IBM/Levono/HP/Dell not true of Sony/Apple. Let me know what happens. When you do hit the power with no battery, does the fan spin? Does the HD start spinning? Does the HD sound like its reading?

If you power it on and get the light it means either two things:
1. It needs a minimal charge on the battery to power. ( havent seen this since the old Compaq/Apple stuff ) or
2. The motherboard is fried. ( Just diagnosed a HPDV6000r special edition with this beautiful computer, dead motherboard ).
What is the warranty like:
NOTE TO ALL STUDENTS: Buy New laptops in November, so the warranty comes up in October, after you know you need more computer or repairs!

I have the same problem with the power switch. if you disconnect the battery from the laptop and immediately reconnect it, the power button works...it is an annoyance but at least the laptop is operable., i might return mine because it is within the warranty period
