The "in" and "out" jacks on the speaker are connected in parallel, so the fact that the other speaker works really doesn't tell us much. If you are not getting any sound at all from either the woofer or the horn, than the internal crossover is probably the defective part. The easiest way to hunt this down is to remove the rear plate that has the connectors on it and try each speaker directly,. Assuming that each speaker works, replace the crossover. Parts should be availabel from, Peavey directly. Call them and speak to the service parts department.

Peavey sp5 crossover fried

well it would depend on what voltage you would want them to fire at...the poly SWITCH would trigger at the voltage you want the second series ballast resistor to kick in at, obviously you would like to have it operate at a higher voltage cause you have blown the poor thing up, the maximum power of the RX22 diaphragm is 80 watts and it is 8 ohms, so divide the 80 by 8 and then take it square rt. that will give you the max current in diaphragm..then multiply that by 8 to get it voltage across the diaphragm, which is about 25 volts, but we really need the current here as we need to understand the voltage drop across the sense circuit the kick in the next series ballast resistor to attenuate the horn....since I am to tired to get off my ass and the get the schematic out of the drawer...seem like I remember they are about 30 volts, I have about 20 in stock...

Check the crossover network for cracked solder joints, specially pay attention to the female1/4 jacks as they are very tricky since they are switches also, you might be surprised...

My Peavey PV-118 18" subwoofer

Peavey uses a protection network and sometimes it gets blown when too much power is sent to the speaker. The speaker may be blown however. Peak power for this is 800 Watts and 400 Program... That is NOT RMS power. Make sure your amp is no bigger than 300 Watts RMS driving this. If you are REAL lucky, maybe a lead has fallen off the speaker... Open the unit inspect and test the components.

I have 2 peavey sp 5 and a pwavey 2600 amp . i wanna know can i hook a peavey 118 passive sub to one of the sp5 and how would it sound?

You would send high as well as low to the sub and unless the sub had a built in crossover it COULD get muddy sounding. The specs SEEM to indicate the 118 DOES have a low frequency crossover so it SHOULD be OK... How would it sound? An 18 inch sub normally adds to the sound of a system... You MAY need to PAN over to send more power to the one side with the extra load on one side. Often people use two sub's... one for each side so it is balanced.

Need to remove speaker how do we dismantel the speaker cabinet for the sp5

you do not need to dismantel . first remove the front grill which is held in place by screws which you are able to see. you need to get a special screwdriver for this, looks like a star screwdriver but i think it has about 6 slots. then only will you will be able to remove the speakers. if you are only removing the diaphragm , all you got to do is remove both handles and unscrew the the driver . then remove the diaphragm from the driver and replace with the new one
