"CL" displayed on answering machine

The Msg Count display on the answering machine ( GE 21028GE3) is alternatively flashing "0" and "CL".

Nothing in the manual mentions this code and nothing seems to remove it either.

Do you have any idea how to resolve this weird problem?

Thank you,

My display is alternating between CL and and won't take messages. What should I do.

CL means that the clock is not set and when that is the case, the answering machine wont work.

I want to change the nombers of the rings to get start the answering machin

These are the instructions from the manual, which I found here:

This feature lets you select the number of times you want to phone to ring
before the answering system answers a call.

1. Make sure your phone is OFF (not in talk mode).
2. Press the MUTE/PROG button to go to the main menu.
3. Press CID/VOL (up or down) button to scroll to HANDSET SETUP.
4. Press MUTE/PROG button to confirm.
5. Press the CID/VOL (up or down) button to scroll to the RING SELECT menu.
6. Press MUTE/PROG button to enter the menu. RING SELECT 3 4 5 6 TS shows in the display.
7. Use the CID/VOL (up or down) button to scroll to the your selection. The default setting is 5.
8. Press the MUTE/PROG button to confirm. You will hear a confirmation tone and the new setting shows in the display.

NOTE: If you select Toll Saver (TS) the unit answers after the 3rd ring if there
are NEW messages, OR the unit answers after the 5th ring if there are NO new
messages. This allows user to access their answerer from another location and
then hang up after 4 rings to save long distance charges.

Your time needs set on your answering machine. If you have buttons on the top of your base, press and hold the day/check button to set the day of the week. Press and hold the hour button to set the hour. Press and hold the min button to set the min. If you don't have buttons on base, press flash button on handset to enter answerer remote mode. Press the 8 key to enter time set menu. Set hour and min using number buttons and set am/pm using caller id buttons. Press # pause to confirm the setting.

I also had this problem, with the "CL" flashing with "0". I realized that it wanted me to update the clock, since I had just moved and therefore reset the clock. Try changing the time.

Blinking "CL"

The blinking " CL " is the code that tells you the clock needs setting, any type of power interuption will cause this . To set this , Look to the back of the answer machine / dock there you can set the day and time by holding in the desired button untill it reaches the desired setting.
