Question about Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6600SBT Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Whirlpool duet pump stays on

So I have a whirlpool duet and I got an F-21 code (drain issue). I cleared the code, reran the load and the pump was staying on, even though there is no water in the tub.

The drain hose was clear so I cleaned out the filter, reran the load, and the pump still stayed on. I checked the pump, it works. So I unplugged the machine for 30+ minutes to reset the CCU (central control unit) and that didn't do anything either.

Is there a switch telling the pump that there is water in the tub that needs to be pumped out? I don't know what else to do besides paying a pro.

Found the problem. It wasn't suds; I use he (high efficiency) detergent per the standard operating procedures. I figured it had to be a pressure sensor issue since the pump stayed on even when the system was 100% dry. However, I didn't trust myself to repair the problem.

I got a professional out who determined the exact thing that I did but he went further, taking the pressure sensor off and gently blowing into it. Apparently, the diaphragm was stuck in the position that indicates water (or suds) are present so the pump was just trying to pump out the nonexistent water. Next time, I'll be able to take it off and do that myself if it happens again. Note: the guy said to be careful not to blow too hard, because it can break it.

Oh well, a $73 service call is better than a $200 replacement control unit board. I hope this helps the next person.

I got the problem fixed. It wasn't an oversudsing problem; I use the (high efficiency) detergent as required.

I thought that the problem had to be the result of a pressure switch issue since the pump stayed on even when the system was 100% dry.

Turns out that was right. I got a professional to come out and take a look. He removed the pressure switch, gently blew into the line, and apparently unstuck the diaphragm which was stuck in the position indicating water present in the tub (or oversuds). he said to be careful not to blow too hard or the sensor will break. Oh well, a $73 service call beats a $200 replacement central control unit (CCU).

If anyone has this same problem, try to clear out the pressure sensor switch. If that doesn't work, replace it. If that isn't it, the CCU may have to be done. Oh no!

Hope this helps the next person.

Try running the load with out soap
you could be oversoaping each and everytime
these machines have sud sensors and will continue to run the pump as long as suds remain in the sump
watch the load as it goes through the wash cycle
if you see suds and did not add soap then there you go
these machines do not need anything more than 1 tblspoon per load
1/8 the water 1/8 the soap

What is error code f 21 on a whirlpool duet sport wfw8300 3.8 cubic washer?

Hello,

This means that the drain pump is clogged. Tip the machine back and remove the three screws on the bottom panel. The pump has a filter inside. Pull the filter out and clean it, it will fix the issue for sure!

My whirlpool washer duet sport is not draining water out and displays error code f-21

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error F21 indicates long drain, this error occurs when the drain time exceeds 8 minutes. To resolve this check the drain hose and make sure it is not kinked with any foreign particles; also clean the drain pump filter for any clogs. Also check if the pump is running fine. If still the issue is not resolved after all this then you might have to replace the pump. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

Whirlpool duet sport wfw8300sw00 f-21 error

Unplug the machine. Unscrew the 3 screws under the front edge of the washer. The service technician manual is attached to the panel that slides down and off. Find F21 code. See suggested procedures. Note: My drain pump filter had a baby wash cloth in it along with some change that was disrupting the flow. It is exceptionally easy to remove, clean, and reinstall. Just line up installation notches when reinstalling. Whirlpool should have mentioned this filter in the User & Care Guide, but I could not find it anywhere in there.
