On cable service you have to let the router do the work. On the main setup screen in your router, tell it cable service. Then you have to enter your information from your isp. Once you done that tell the router to connect under the status page.

How to speed up internet network

The speed of your internet is determined by your service provider and their modem. If possible, connect directly to the modem to check the speed. If you suspect you D-Link router is not allowing you to get full internet speed, first a Hard Reboot of you Router and Modem.
If that did not solve the issue, try a known working LAN 5e cable between your modem and router. After you have established it is not a cable issue, do a factory reset.
I had an issue where my speed to the internet modem was fine, but the router LAN connections only provide a faction of the internet speed. After testing cables, etc I did a factory reset and it restored full connection speed on my router LAN ports.

Poor signal with WiFi on my zeepad

Having a wireless Internet signal in your home allows multiple devices to use the same Internet connection without having to run lengths of Ethernet cable to each device. Given that the wireless network is transmitted over the air, the consistency of your Internet connection depends on the strength of the wireless signal. If wireless signal strength is not strong enough to give you a consistent Internet connection, there are a few simple steps for finding the problem and improving your signal strength.

Reset all devices. The majority of Internet issues, including poor wireless signal strength, are very often solved by a simple power cycle of all the devices in the network. Locate the power cords of both your modem and your wireless router and remove them (if you use a modem/router combination, simply unplug the power to that device). Leave them unplugged for a full 30 seconds, plug them back in and restart your computer. When your computer fully reboots, check your wireless signal strength to see if it has improved. If it has not, further troubleshooting is required. Move your computer closer to your router, or your router closer to your computer. Wireless routers do not have unlimited range. One reason your computer may be getting a weak signal strength from your wireless network could be because your computer is simply outside of the router's range. Typically, ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will install your modem in one specific location in the house and the modem will not work at other locations, so moving the modem or modem/router combination may not be a possibility. If this is the case, you may need to move the computer to a location that is within the range of the wireless router's broadcast. If you still get poor signal strength, your router may be experiencing a malfunction. Contact the technical support department of your router manufacturer. Router malfunctions often are not the result of a bad or broken router, but of something much simpler, such as the router's needing a firmware upgrade or an incorrect setting on the router's internal setup. If your router manufacturer is unable to improve your wireless signal strength, it may be time to purchase a new router. Purchase a new router. Wireless routers are priced in part based on how widely their wireless signal broadcasts (in other words, the more expensive the router you buy, the larger a wireless signal the router will broadcast). Included in the packaging of each wireless router is the approximated range, in square footage, of that router's wireless network. A good rule of thumb is to know the square footage of your house and buy a router that can accommodate that square footage. That way, as long as the router is functioning properly, you will have strong wireless signal strength throughout your entire home. Hope this helps.

We believe it overheated and now the internet provider is sending 20mbps download speed but once it hits the router we only get 1.61mbps to the computer. How can we fix it so we are getting the full...

if your router was truly overheated you wouldn't be getting any signal at all. The advertised dl speed of ISP's are greatly exaggerated. First you have to figure you what you're actually getting

So connect a computer directly to the modem, bypassing the router then go to:

to figure out what you're getting.

If you get what you've gotten before, then welcome to the world of false advertising.
If the diff between what you directly, and then behind the router is more than 10mbps then from the settings of your router:

1) Check DMZ (demilitarized zone) and redo the test. If you're speed improved significantly then you have an internet port blocked in the port forwarding settings of your router. Most likely port 80, or 8080. These are http ports. Release the ports. If your speed hasn't improved:

2) hold the reset button of you router for 20 seconds. Power cycle the router. Hold reset button for another 20 seconds. POwer cycle the router. Hold reset button for a 3rd 20 seconds. This will hopefully clear the NV ram in your router. Redo speedtests. If it still hasn't improved, plug the wire cord into another port. No improvement? buy another router! Which reminds me:

3) You won't get 20 mbps with the WIRELESS aspect of your router, only wired. So hopefully that's not the issue.

Good luck, and hope this helped.

How to adjust my nat router for faster downloads

to improve downloading speed, you can do some research on port forwarding. Download speed also depends on the source of the download and your connection speed.

Linksys speed cut off

First, are you connected via Ethernet cable or are you linking via Wi-Fi? If Wi-Fi the speed is alway slower (up to 54 Mps) If connected by Ethernet, your connection speed should read 100 Mbps. Once you have determined the connection mode and speed.unplug the wireless router and connect the computer directly to the modem. Now test the speed and see if the speed lag is still ther. If not, you have a routing /networking issue but, it it is still the same speed, it could very well be heavy traffic ( a lot of people drawing from the same local area signal., usually at specific times of the day).

I have had this same problem with Qwest using a new iMac and MacBook on the Actiontec modem. Qwest did two things: first we reset the modem which was fairly simple and took only about 5 minutes. However, this fix lasts only a few weeks and it comes back. I have just ordered a new modem since there seems to be a problem with the Actiontec device with the newer high speed internet.
I'd try the reset before doing anything else. Good luck.

Is it hard wires ie: dsl or high speed internet thru your cable TV lines, even if it wi fi you have a maodem hooked up to the phone or cable lines or satellite.Try rebooting the system including your modem & all routers. this is best done w/ computers off . Turn them all off or unplug them for at least 30 seconds. Then plug them in - one at a time , modem, routers, computers. If this doesn't work. Disconnect them from each other. There is a reset button on your modem & routers - push this is and hold for a minute, do each component separtely. Repeat reboot process.

About oruter

Actually a router will not improve your speed, unless you are upgrading from one speed to a faster speed. A router is a device that controls the 'traffic' on your network. In the simplest explanation it 'routes' the uploads/downloads/etc across your network. It also enables you to have multiple computers access the internet through the same internet access such as dial-up modem, cable modem, satellite, DSL, etc.

If you are running a 56K modem for your internet connection, the only thing you can really do to improve your connection speed is to obtain a software program that accelerates the download.

There are different types of 56K modems, and some do have faster overall speeds but the speed is not a huge change.

If I am misunderstanding your question, please provide more details and I will be happy to respond with further details.
