Hardrive removal

Simple as pie... you will see the harddrive mounted horizontally in a small shelf after you tae the cover off. You have to unscrew the philips screws that hold it in the shelf and unplug the connectors. make sure you label the wires so you know which ones came from that harddrive... they is usually room for 2 harddrives and two complete sets of connectors, don't mix them up. (One is the master and the other called a slave.) There is an adapter for the harddrive that you should always keep should you need to replace the harddrive, (comes in two pieces on either side) the new ones don't come with the adapters to fit them in the case; they are bare bones. If you don't want to go through the gymnastics of taking the other tower apart and installing the 2nd harddrive in it to read it... an internal HDD adapter can be purchased from Tiger Direct for a nominal cost. I allows you plug you internal HDD into a USB socket in any PC (desktop or laptop) and read it as you would a Flashdrive.

Please remove any pen drives or any usb devices like external hard disk or CDs present in CD drive.
and try to restart system and check ..

If system is still like that try with press F8 while starting the windows . go to SAFE MODE,

even if it is not coming, open the system and check the cables properly connected to hard disk and other devices.

Hi . I have trouble with Dell optiplex GX280 . In the PATA I have two devices . DVD and HD . Both set with jumper . DVD as Slave and HDD as Master ....But the install os cannot detect HDD . where is...

I don't know where the trouble is without more information.
Some tips/information I will list, however,

1) The master harddrive that came with the computer, and has the operating system on it, is a SATA unit.

Therefore any harddrive installed along with it has to be installed as a Slave drive.

BIOS will look for the harddrive with the operating system on it. This harddrive has to be set as a Master drive. (Primary Drive in BIOS)

Installing a harddrive that is a PATA (IDE) unit, AND a PATA optical drive on the same flat ribbon cable, has to be done accordingly;

A) It depends on what flat ribbon cable you have.
There is a 40 wire cable with a 40 pin connector. (39 actually. One socket hole is not used)

2) Proper method of using jumpers on an IDE (PATA) harddrive, and connecting the flat ribbon cable,

Front usb configration

Just talking from my experience, I have noticed that some boards have problems with USB ports that are connected via a cable (yours is, I presume). Like the P5GC-MX I have in my CCTV server, the front ports only allow Flashdrives and low voltage devices but it doesn't accept USB Harddisks (those using laptop harddrives).

Can you attach flashdrives or is it really dead?

How about your pin connections? was it connected properly using the cable to the board?

What type of casing are you using? I noticed some cheap casings (those especially that don't use FoxConn, have problems with their front USB ports)

How change my operating system from vista home premium to windows Xp

Caution: If you have anything on the cmputer (docs, contacts, photos, etc.) save themn to a disk or flashdrive before you start as they will be lost forever with the reformat.
Do you have an XP cd and cd key code? If so , put it in and restart the computer , if the computer asks you if you want to boot to the cd , click yes. If it doesn't ask you that, then you will need to enter the bios and change the "boot order" so that the computer reads the CD rom BEFORE the harddrive.
Once this is set , boot to the XP cd, it will ask you questions as it starts and load a bunch of drivers so the system functions without the operating system before the OS is installed , this is normal.
When you get to the part about partitioning you want to del the old partition, then create a new one with the new space, then format using the NTFS files system. this takes a while to complete, at this point it will take you right into the install. you may need to download individual drivers for your motherboard and hardware installed and install those before you update windows completely. Then do your microsoft updates, then load the drivers for your printers, fax, flashdrive , etc..
Post again if you need more help.. also might include some model numbers of your computer and I can help you with more specific instructions..
Regards...

My all in one center doesnt work lexmark x 1200 series

You may want to try to run "checkdisk" on the flashdrive. Go to My Computer and right click your flashdrive and select "properties." Select the "tools" tab. Click on "check now" in the error-checking box. Follow the directions from there.

Also, you can try to defrag the flashdrive. Go to: start>programs>accessories>system tools>disk degragmenter. Then select your flashdrive.

Additionally, you may want to consider ditching the flashdrive software and just use it as a regular flashdrive. In that case:
Go to My Computer, right click you flashdrive and select format.

If you want to recover the data on your flashdrive now, try this (free) software called "Resoration":

Bluetooth iogear adapter

My Toshiba Laptop was setup to create automatic "System Restore Points"...I simply went back to the system restore point one day prior to installing the Iogear Bluetooth software: (my computer>accessories>toshiba tools>system restore).
I now have my Windows XP Welcome Screen back - -any changes or program installations I've made after the restore date will need to be reinstalled or reapplied, but I didn't have much on the laptop anyway, since I had just got it!
I would suggest backing up any files or data you may want to save before doing the system restore on any computer (maybe on a flashdrive or sd card, someplace other than the harddrive - then you can select what you want to install - excluding the culprit that caused you the problem). The system restore option will backup certain system files - notifying you of the new filenames after the restore has completed.
If the system restore process doesn't work, you do have the option of 'going back' to the last system settings, or trying another 'System Restore Point'.
If any desktop or laptop pc has a 'System Restore' option, I highly recommend turning this feature on....it may prevent a lot of headaches and problems!
One suggestion - BACKUP your system somewhere before making any major changes to your system...especially before installing new applications, or even before changing your system profiles or connectivity options...so many things can't easily be 'undone' !

Simpletech hard drive

Your desktop usb compatibility is not supported your 160GB. The only way to attach you 160GB is to make it secondary partition to your primary drive by opening the CPU and attach it to your IDE cable.

Don't force yourself if you cannot do it by yourself just leave it to the expert. Probable cause to damage your hard drive if it is not installed properly.

Please rate me solved if you like my solution.
