Question about Whirlpool Duet GHW9150P Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Dingy Clothes I have had my Whirlpool Duet washing machine for about 2 years and we are in the process of getting rid of it. My whites and light clothes are dingy and ugly. We have purchased more whites and changed from one HE washing powder to another. Still getting dingy. We are using HE bleach for the whites and still getting dingy. My deodrant even remain on my clothes after the wash. I had to change from my solid white to clear. I have tried the soak first and then wash. I have wash a second time and still no help for us. I really hate this thing. I think it is the black residue that comes from stainless steel (the stainless steel drum) that is transferring to the clothes. Just my humble opionion.

The stainless steel does not discolor clothing by transfer of any residue. If there is any residue in the washer it comes from accumulations of soap and debris that have not been cleaned out of the tub. Its recommended that you clean the tub and gasket area from time to time to keep this from happening. In addition, you need to leave the door open when not in use to prevent mold and mildew from forming. I personally own a washer such as yours and have never had a problem with stainless steel transferring stains to my clothing. I've owned it for 9 years now. NOTE: Nearly ALL washing machines use a stainless steel wash tub. You may be hard pressed to find one that doesn't have one. Replacing the washer may be a moot point. Dingy whites usually comes from something in the water you are using. In particular, if you are using well water. I had the same problem and it came from what is known as "clear water iron". You can't see it, you may taste it, but it definitely will cause problems with your laundry and appliances over time. The only way I could resolve the problem was to install a water softener and use a type of salt with red-out iron remover.

Our brand new Whirpool Duet immediately started leaving our whites dingy and ugly. I have followed all manufacturer recommendations for care and maintenance. I HATE THIS PRODUCT. Unfortunately we redisigned our wash room to make the machines stackable. I will gladly give up the extra storage space to have the "Whitest Whites" this machine claims to have.

What is the answer for dingy clothes? I have the same problems and I'm getting ready to get rid of this washer because I'm tired of not getting clean clothes and having my towels smelly after taking them out of the washer.

Whites are dingy. Random stains appear on my husband's dress shirts that weren't there when I put them in the wash. We have a water softener; don't know if that plays into the problems. Please help!

Put washer through a clean cycle with bleach only. Check to be sure you are using HE soap. Check the bellows(door seal) make sure it is not jamming clothes.

The clothes then are too wet for the heat to evaporate. Spin extra time to get rid of as much water as possible before putting them in dryer.

It sounds like the silicone apron between your washer drum and the door has deteriorated. If that is the case, no cleaner will help you.
Best solution is to order a new one.

I wouldn't blame it on the washer but did you have the same problem with your previous washer? Are you using the same water source as previously. Do you use a chlorine bleach with it and did you use it before? Is the cheer a liquid or powder. You should us a powder.

I live in the country in NC. My water is well

For brighter, softer, stain-free clothes, add 1/2 cup Arm and Hammer® baking soda to your regular detergent in the wash cycle, then add 3/4 cup Heinz® white vinegar to the rinse. Soak really dingy clothes for ten minutes in the baking soda-detergent mix before washing in the hottest water fabric will accept. Vinegar smells should vanish after clothes have dried. Many online voters said that this worked best.

I too have a front load washer. The problem is that it's not washing off all the soap suds. Try this. After a complete cycle, soak the clean clothes in a container w/ water and you'll see there's still soap suds coming out of the clothes. I tried running it several wash cycles and there was still soap left on the clothes. I think, it's mfg defect. We should all complain to the maker of the machines.
