Question about E-Machines M2352 Notebook

Open Question

My E-machines laptop's internet connection is slow via Wi-Fi.

My e-machines laptop does not connect to the internet at full speed when on the Wi-Fi network however on Ethernet it will connect at its full speed.
Now I know Wi-Fi does tend to be slower than direct cable connection however I do have other laptops in the house and they all produce the following results on broadband speed tests on the internet:
E-Machines laptop: 4.7 Mbps (seems to cap out at this speed) Other laptop(s): 5.7 Mbps

This only happens in my home network because if I take my E-machines elsewhere to other networks it can reach higher speeds. So that rules out that something is wrong with my Wi-Fi adapter built into it.
I currently have At&t U-Verse service with a 6 Mbps internet service with a 2Wire Router/Modem Gateway. I had a technician from At&t come out and he checked the router and said it was fine nothing wrong with it. He checked the internet line and indeed I am receiving the full internet speed. His very own laptop connected to the Wi-Fi and received 5.7 Mbps just fine.
The interesting thing is that previously when I had At&t FastAccess Dsl with the 6.0 Mbps service as well, I would receive via Wi-Fi on this very laptop 5.2 Mbps however, in that case that is what every other device would receive as well because the internet speed coming into the home was about 5.6 Mbps max because of the Dsl tech.
So all in all, what could be going on with my computer that is causing it to max out a full Megabit lower than all the other devices connecting to the same network???
I am running Windows XP with all the updates, no issues with the computer such as Viruses or AdWare either.
P.S. I've used both and Speakeasy broadband tests on all the laptops tested (even the iPhone and iPod Touch).

By the way, I forgot to mention that previously when I had the Dsl service, I was using a NetGear router, the 2Wire router comes with the U-Verse service and it must be used. Also, if I connect the laptop via Ethernet I can reach peak 6.1 Mbps. I've connected to my friend's wi-fi network (He also has U-verse at 6.0 Mbps) and with this very same laptop the connection is faster at his house.

That website did not provide any further assistance, I do not even know where to look for whatever it is you may be referring me to.

Is there anybody who could provide assistance with this matter?

    This was solved.

I thought this was a problem with the 2Wire home gateway At&t provided to me with the U-Verse service however this was not the issue.

The problem was actually WIndows Xp on my laptop.

Apparently there is some setting in old laptops running Xp (because on Vista it has been corrected by Microsoft) that does not allow the Wi-fi device to connect at full speed to a wireless network.

This is called the MTU setting and the optimal setting for each laptop and network will vary however in order to find the optimal MTU setting for your device and how to configure that setting go to and search for their guides speaking of exactly this. They do a great job of explaning it.

Once you change this setting the 'cap' at which your laptop connects to the network will be removed.

If this is happening on a system running Vista or Windows 7 then this solution may not work for you as this is a specific Windows Xp issue.

SOURCE: I have just bought the m6811 comp laptop from

One thing to check is to see if the WORPGROUP name is the same.

On your laptop, Right Click on My Computer and go to properties.
Click the Computer Name Tab and compare it with your Dells.
If it's the same then you might want to directly connect your laptop to the router and see if it can recognize it that way.
If all else fails, you can reset the router.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Emachine won't connect to the internet. Ethernet

Wireless is one thing but when your directly connected to your router with a cat 5 ethernet cord, you should be connected automatically. Since you checked device manager and it shows no indication with any device not being recognized then it is not a driver issue. When I plug in an ethernet cable I check to see if the light is flashing from behind the Tower. Then I would make sure the network connection with the local area connection (network adaptors) is not disabled. Right click "Local Area Connection" ,check the statis. It should display "IPV4" which will display from the right of that, internet or no internet. Sometimes Your DHCP might not have issued an IP address. Other problems that may cause a web page from not showing up is within the browser. Locate internet properties/ connections/LAN settings, sometimes I find the proxy server setting enabled which is (some cases) the problem to there whole disconnection. Must be disabled.

Not working wifi on my lenovo g360 laptop, all drivers are working properly. And switch is already on. if u guys know about that, help me pls

Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on your device
Make sure flight mode is turned off
Make sure your selecting the correct wireless name in range and using the correct network password to connect, Wireless networks with low signals will show connected but you will not be able to browse the internet
Check your router and modern, Make sure the lights are as mentioned in the user guide of your service provider
First figure out if the problem is with your Lenovo Device or the Wi-Fi network:
Device/Machine problems: Try connecting to the Wi-Fi network with another device, like a laptop computer or friend's phone. If any other devices can connect to and use the wireless network, the problem is most likely specific to your device.
Network/Router problems: Check to see if your device can connect to a Wi-Fi network at another location, like a friend's house or a public network. If it can, the problem is most likely specific to the Wi-Fi network.
Then try the troubleshooting steps below based on whether the problem is with your device or the network.

Im using a 2Wire Gateway DSL connected via ethernet to a Mac G4, I also have a laptop running windows vista and it has strong wi-fi connection, sending packets at optimal levels and speed. BUT Problem

Vista has a well known flaw of not allowing you to easily change access rights after selecting "public network" in the initial network connection screens. The easiest fix is to change the name of your wifi access point, reconnect, and be absolutely certain to select "home network" when the prompt comes up.

The best solution however is to ditch that crummy excuse for an operating system and upgrade to Windows 7 or 8.

I want to no how to fix the internet connection. It is very lagging and does our every minute

Not enough information are you using wireless internet connection via a wi fi router via a broadband connection like DSL or Cable. Your play station may be too far way from it to get a reliable signal. you may need a wi fi repeater or a direct ethernet cable from your router to your play station. I am testing out a powerline ethernet connection this is another way to connect ethernet. Direct 100 Mb/s cable is the best as wireless and powerlines is slower (note1). You may have a slow internet connection test it by goggling for " test download speed " .

(note 1) there is a faster wireless technology currently being sold but the game station would not be able to utilise it.

Annoying Wireless network connection problems!

Try changing the channel number in the router for the Wi FI add 3 to the minimum channel number.
It is possible you have a neighbour with wi fi and by adding three to the channel number you give some space separation to allow more bandwidth on the WI FI channel.
when this slow down occurs ping the router address (default gateway ip) and see if ping is quick. This will eliminate WI FI as slow point. Try using tracert instead of ping to see if bottlenecks occur in network or internet.

Bought a new comp woith windows 7, when i try to watch t.v. it keeps buffering, can u help me tyvm

First check to see that you have known good bandwidth on your internet connection. If this is slow, you will always run into a situation where your playback is running faster than your download rate and causing your streaming software to pause and buffer content before continuing.

I'm assuming you connect to the internet via wi-fi, try connecting to the internet through a cable & see if that helps.

Unfortunately the Presario CQ62-215DX does have problems with poor video streaming capabilities (frequent freezes) and poor wi-fi performance which is probably the cause of your buffering problem.

Hope this is of some help. ;)
