Question about E-Machines M2352 Notebook
My e-machines laptop does not connect to the internet at full speed when on the Wi-Fi network however on Ethernet it will connect at its full speed.
Now I know Wi-Fi does tend to be slower than direct cable connection however I do have other laptops in the house and they all produce the following results on broadband speed tests on the internet:
E-Machines laptop: 4.7 Mbps (seems to cap out at this speed) Other laptop(s): 5.7 Mbps
This only happens in my home network because if I take my E-machines elsewhere to other networks it can reach higher speeds. So that rules out that something is wrong with my Wi-Fi adapter built into it.
I currently have At&t U-Verse service with a 6 Mbps internet service with a 2Wire Router/Modem Gateway. I had a technician from At&t come out and he checked the router and said it was fine nothing wrong with it. He checked the internet line and indeed I am receiving the full internet speed. His very own laptop connected to the Wi-Fi and received 5.7 Mbps just fine.
The interesting thing is that previously when I had At&t FastAccess Dsl with the 6.0 Mbps service as well, I would receive via Wi-Fi on this very laptop 5.2 Mbps however, in that case that is what every other device would receive as well because the internet speed coming into the home was about 5.6 Mbps max because of the Dsl tech.
So all in all, what could be going on with my computer that is causing it to max out a full Megabit lower than all the other devices connecting to the same network???
I am running Windows XP with all the updates, no issues with the computer such as Viruses or AdWare either.
P.S. I've used both Speedtest.net and Speakeasy broadband tests on all the laptops tested (even the iPhone and iPod Touch).
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: Internet Won't Connect
Press Start->Connect To -->Show all connections.
If the Local Area Connection icon is crossed with a red X, right click it and choose (Enable, or Repair).
If there is no Local Area Connection icon, you must create a connection.
In the left panel in Network Connection window click create new connection.
1.The wizard pops up
3.Put a (dot)mark in Connect to the Internet .
5.Choose Set up my connection manually
6.Click Next Choose the type of connection you have with you ISPN (dial up, etc.)
7. Click Next , and follow the instruction from here.
Hope it helps you find your way to a solution

One thing to check is to see if the WORPGROUP name is the same.
On your laptop, Right Click on My Computer and go to properties.
Click the Computer Name Tab and compare it with your Dells.
If it's the same then you might want to directly connect your laptop to the router and see if it can recognize it that way.
If all else fails, you can reset the router.
Hope this helps!

Wireless is one thing but when your directly connected to your router with a cat 5 ethernet cord, you should be connected automatically. Since you checked device manager and it shows no indication with any device not being recognized then it is not a driver issue. When I plug in an ethernet cable I check to see if the light is flashing from behind the Tower. Then I would make sure the network connection with the local area connection (network adaptors) is not disabled. Right click "Local Area Connection" ,check the statis. It should display "IPV4" which will display from the right of that, internet or no internet. Sometimes Your DHCP might not have issued an IP address. Other problems that may cause a web page from not showing up is within the browser. Locate internet properties/ connections/LAN settings, sometimes I find the proxy server setting enabled which is (some cases) the problem to there whole disconnection. Must be disabled.
