Question about Maytag MDE308DAYW Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Some sort of felt type insulation has come off the inside back of the dryer. I have had the dryer not quite 3 years. Is there some sort of warranty or solution to this. It is tearing clothes.

You need to check your owners manual about the warranty, most likely it just carried 1 year warranty. The felt is what the drum glides on, and if it ripped, the tub will have a gap for cloths to get snagged and rip. The felt glide will need replaced, but, you need to check the edges of the tub for sharp or metal burrs, or it will just rip the new felt. good luck, Shane

ME GE SELECT HEAVY DUTY DRYER IS ABOUT 10 YEARS OLD. IT RUNS WELL AND HAS GREAT HEAT BUT THERE IS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE FROM THE REAR. tHERE IS ALSO SOME BLACK DUST/PARTICLES ON THE REAR COVER . IS THERE A...

This black dust may be that of the drive belt. The belt wraps around the dryer's drum through a tensioner and in to the motor pulley. TYpically there is a felt material of sorts at the back of the drum. This is the "seal" between the back of the rotary drum and the stationery back wall. I expect the dust your seeing though is the drive belt, becoming old and hardening from years of heat, best to change.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

Dryer sounds like there is change on the outside

i had the same problem last week on my dryer, turns out that the felt on the drum where its attached to the housing has worn off, my dryer is so old. i did do careful inspection, by sticking my head in the drum and turning it by hand and looking into the seam. it does sound like there was a coin in there, but it was just metal to metal scrapping. im off to my buddys used appliance store to look for a felt seal.plz rate-bozcro

Felt insulation around drum is loose?

This is not a serious problem, but it should be fixed. It probably just came unglued and can be reattached.

Whirlpool duet dryer felt seal replacement

The drum may to be removed to install the new felt gasket but the old drum can then be reinstalled. The felt gasket seals the joint where the drum rotates at the inside back panel. It is likely that the inside back panel can be removed when the dryer is placed front-down and the outside back panel is removed. In that case the drum does not have to come out.

Brown marks on the clothes

Yes, the felts are what seals the unit and allows the drum to turn without much heat loss. The felt can become damaged and the clothes will get caught between the drum and the housing leaving these marks.

Leaking water from underneath towards the right side.

The pad is an insulation pad to keep heat in the washer. It might be worth pulling the washer out and checking the water feed and drain connections - it's a good bet one of these is leaking.

Lg dishwasher with "LE" code

I had the same problem and it was the wiring in the door. The wiring was stuck to the "tar" type insulation on the door and one had melted and was broken-spliced and fixed wiring and insulated all wiring with lots of tape and now it works fine.

Frigidaire crown series dryer

The back of the drum has a hub (a flat steel piece with a shaft and ball) which allows the drum to turn. That ball rides in a plastic "cradle". Unfortunately on the crown series...if the ball and cradle are not greased regularly, the plastic wears. This allows the drum to "sag". The front end of the drum is lower than the back. You can confirm this by running your finger around the front of the drum. You'll notice that the top of the drum is almost flush with the body of the dryer and the bottom of the drum is 3/4 of an inch lower that the the body. This allows clothes to slip into the gap at the bottom and then they are spen to the top pof the drum were the lodge between the body and the top of the drum. The turning drum burns the clothing. Replace the plastic piece that the hub rides in.
