I had the exact same problem as Dude2891 and it took me ages to work out what was wrong. The problem turned out to be that when I first got it and was playing with the menus, I managed to put it on burst mode, and in burst mode flash is automatically set to off. So you need to turn it on, press menu bottom left and scroll to REC mode (the first option) and then check that you're on Normal not Burst. That fixed it for me!
