Question about RTO Gas Motor Scooter

Yamaha neos wont go over 20mph

Ive recently added a derestricted leo vince tt exhaust on my yamaha neos 50 and also put in 4.3gr rollers and yellow clutch springs that came with the exhaust as recommended. Now i have some problems, the bike will start up great, and it will accelerate brilliantly from start, but then if i slow down at all then it seems ive lost the power altogether, and i wont gain it back until i get to about 25mph. Its incredibly annoying, it will go great up a hill aslong as i hit the hill at 30mph+ otherwise it will just slow right down to about 10mph and keep getting slower which is rather embarressing. Also today i was riding home from work and on the flat it wouldnt go over 20mph. I think it may either be that my contrast spring is too weak for the amount of power it needs to hold, or its over heating VERY quickly, or my rollers are too heavy, and also i read somewhere that there's a restrictor in the CDI taking down the revs? i'm probably completly wrong about it all but could really use some help.
Cheers guys :)

Check the voltage coming out of the magneto to make sure its up to spec. Having a low voltage output will cause all kinds of problems in low rpm and dissapear when your revs get high enough.

Hi I own a Yamaha neos 4 and I am wondering if I change the Cdi to a Yamaha vitty 125 CDi will my bike work and run faster ?

Hi, Cameran I seriously doubt it CDI is for spark only a four cycle engine is nothing more than a mechanical air box it sucks in air/fuel and expels it as burnt exhaust the more air/fuel you can stuff in the engine and the faster you can expel it the more power and speed you can make start with a more free flowing air cleaner like a K&N and the same with an exhaust system like Yasuni or a big bore kit for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your problem. the chip in your ECU needs to be updated as it controls the fuel and air mix so you have more air from your exhaust ,contact the dealer for more information.

Hi, Helen_lloyd3 for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Yamaha, despair not, for a mere zero $0 you can download another one.

Jet

You definately have a jetting issue. Contact the manufacturer of the exhaust you purchased and ask them to recommend the jetting. You may need to change the primary, the needle and the main to get it right. beware that if you are running it lean as it sounds you are doing, you run the risk of siezing that engine. Fix the jetting before you ride much more. Best wishes!

Jet

if bike is fast up to 20mph then sounds like jet ok, speed is limited by gearing and this is controlled by the variator, the pulley half that moves is controlled by the rollers which you've just fitted. sounds more like a problem there. when the engine speeds up, the force of gravity spins out the rollers which moved the pulleys together, as they come together they squeeze the belt out effectively making the front pulley larger and increasing the gearing. if the rollers can't move or the pulley is jamming you will be stuck at a speed determined by where the pulley is.
