Question about Televison & Video

3 Answers

Hello I have a 37" Olevia, model 337 B11. The picture used to flicker and eventually go out completely but I could still hear the tv. All I had to do at the time was turn the TV off for a second and then the picture would come back. Just recently the picture went out completely but I still had sound. I can't get any of the menu, volume, or video source options on the screen either. Just today I switched out the T-con board (lcd controller) but that did not correct the problem. The backlight on the screen has always worked. Juan P. Cervantes

Would replacing the entire power supply board fix the problem? Or would replacing the entire main board fix the problem? Or do I need to do something entirely different? I am fixing this TV myself and don't want to take it to a repair shop.

Hi Juan,

Thanks for using FixYa. I believe it is the power supply board that needs to be replaced if you have already checked that for bulged/swollen capacitors, resistors etc…Modern power supplies are fairly complex devices (far more than a transformer and a few diodes) and are fussy about certain components (electrolytic capacitors) they require. It cannot be the main board as the sound is perfectly fine from the TV.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

This is an overheat problem; Unplug the tv then Remove the tv back cover then: look for an extra-hot i.c.chip
Then; using a fan cool the back of the tv circuit board where you found the hotspot and, carefully turn the tv on.
The tv should come on if the circuit boards are cold; let me know what you find

Hi,

however the first place to go is the solder connections on the deflection board.

Remove the panel,On each picture tube neck is a deflection yoke with a plug in connector on the right side. This connector plugs into a small circuit board and on the back side of the where the pins are solder you may see 'ring cracks' on the top two pins. Those are for vertical. If bad they are causing the no picture. You will have to use a small mirror to even see them. And they a almost impossible without rotating the yoke. Once you do that repositioning the yoke is real tricky and if done incorrectly you will get colored ghosts of the color of the particular yoke you moved.

And just try to put the solder on the deflection board to set the loose solder right..This should solve your issue

If you mess with all of that a professional tech will have to charge more to correct for problems you have induced. Sorry, but I don't really believe this is a repair for the handiest of all but professionals.

Please leave me comment, fi you need further assistance

Hi, My Olevia 42 inch, model342-B11, has a problem with its picture. At first I had vertical lines running down the screen, then it turned into small squares. What do you think is wrong with it?

Parts are hard or impossible to find for this brand but it sounds like the "main" board which processes all signal in and out of the display.

Olevia 542-b11 LCD HDTV won't turn on. Blue light blinks twice

My Olevia 42" television is several years old. In March of 2012, the infamous "TV will not power on" problem started.

The blue LED light on the front of the TV would go off for a split second, then light up again. The television would not start.

If you are handy with small tools and a soldering iron, you can change the capacitors on the power supply. My Olevia is a model 542-B11.

I bought the repair kit off eBay from seller: sghill99

As of this writing, the seller has sold 37 of these kits. The title of the auction is: Repair Kit, Olevia 542-B11, LCD TV, Capacitors

And if the url is still active, it is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230554940338&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:US:3160

I made the repairs in March 2012 and it is now August 2012 and the television is still working great. It is turned on and off several times every day.

Does your TV have an Audio out? This is the only way that you can get signal to feed to your coby speakers and make sure that your coby speakers has an amplifier.

Most likely a power supply component has aged and thus changed value and/or failed. Take it to a reputable repair person

The HDMI port on my Olevia Model 337-B11 LCD tv quit working. Is there an easy fix?

Without replacing the main board, probably not. Did you try another HDMI source to verify the TV is at fault? If it is the cheapest fix is to use component only.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Relative to Olevia TV Power Supply Problems Solution provided by: kb8tez Matt, the problem he had was Electrolytic Capacitor CS21. Upon careful examination of the Power Supply Circuit Board I find that CS21 is in parallel with CS22. Simply replacing BOTH Capacitors makes for a more permanent fix. Radio Shack P/N 272-1032 1000UF 35V Capacitors @ $1.59 each plus tax makes a very inexpensive repair. Apparently the same power supply circuit board is common to many different Olevia Models.
