Question about Dell Inspiron 9300 PC Notebook

1 Answer

Web Pages Have stopped loading completely

A few days ago web pages came to a screeching halt using Firefox or IE7. The wireless connection indicates it's fine with an excellent signal at 54 Mbps. The Dell Diagnostic test at F12 says the wireless card is working. I have Norton IS in place and it says there are no virus problems. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the wirelss card until my fingers bleed. When I hook up the computer directly to the cable modem, the problem disappears. Does this mean there is an intermittent fault with the built in wirelss card? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Norton is the problem, try and update your wireless drivers. If this doesn't work, go to the device driver and uninstall the wireless card, reboot the machine and that will force windows to load a fresh driver to the card. If windows asks to search windows update, allow it and let it complete the install, while you are doing this make sure you are connected to the router via a cable. good luck. If none of that works, you may try going to Norton and getting their Norton Removal Tool, this is the only way to truly rid the computer of this program and Norton has been known to "out of the blue" make wireless useless.

Tip

Streaming Media and Automatic Refresh

While this feature can be useful to the webmaster, it is often annoying to the average web surfer who prefers a page to load more quickly.
What this does for a webpage is allow it to refresh content if you say, happen to be on a news site, or are checking the Stock market ETC.

But for those who like viewing streaming media, it can drive a person absolutely crazy with excessive commercials.

So here is how you can deal with it (In Firefox anyway)

The automatically refresh web pages feature can be annoying and irritating, can be disorienting due to sudden replacement of content, and probably a waste of bandwidth although some frequently and constantly updated content does deserve to be able to refresh automatically. If you’re not one who is in favor of web pages automatically refreshing, it’s possible to disable, block and prevent web pages from auto refreshing in Firefox.
How to Stop and Block web pages from Auto Refresh or Reload in Firefox
In Firefox, go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General -> Accessibility section, and then tick the check box labeled as Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page.
Checking the option is equivalent to setting accessibility.block autorefresh preference setting in about:config to True.

Web page performance is a measure of the response load time of a web page. The slower a page loads, the higher the page's visitor bounce rate will be. There are quite a few free tools available on the market designed to conduct diagnostic performance tests on web pages. These tests analyze a select page, based a set of rules that are proven to speed the load time. You can use a web-based performance analyzing tool. Or you can install tool add-ons to your Firefox web browser.

Open your computer's web browser and go to GTmetrix.com or http://www.pagespeed.googlelabs.com/ Enter the complete URL of the page you would like to measure in the provided field. Press "Enter" to get the results of your performance test. b> Using Page Speed Firefox Add-On b> Launch the Firefox web browser. Download and install the Page Speed add-on from the Google website. Download and install the Firebug add-on from the GetFireBug website. Enter the URL of the web page you would like to measure in the Firefox address bar. Click the Firebug icon located in the top right-side of the Firefox window, to open the Firebug window. Click the "Page Speed" button in the Firebug status bar. Click "Analyze Performance" to get the results of your performance test. b> Using YSlow Firefox Add-On b> Launch the Firefox web browser. Download and install the YSlow add-on from the Yahoo website. Download and install the Firebug add-on from the GetFireBug website. Enter the URL of the web page in the Firefox address bar. Click the Firebug icon located in the top right-side of the Firefox window, to open the Firebug window. Click the "YSlow" button in the Firebug status bar. Click "Run Test" to get the results of your performance test. Hope this helps.

Why is firefox not loading web sites properly?

if you have another browser you can use temporarily, like IE or Google Chrome...then go to your control panel, program uninstall and delete Firefox. Then use your alternate browser to go to mozilla.com and download a fresh copy of it. Install it and you should be fine. Sometimes browsers just need to be replaced..do this and let me know how it comes out.

Internet explorer canot display web page? ---winxp pro/ desktop computor

I found lots of problem with Ie7,what I personal do is
1.I have a second option for my Browser, that is I install mozilla
firefox.I use it for my default browser. You can download it here
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

2.I downgrade my IE7 to IE6 by going to ADD/Remove program
and uninstall IE7.After that your IE7 will become IE6
** Windows default is IE6,if you uninstall IE7,your system will become IE6 Automatically.

Best is to try the first step,I think this will help to solve your problem.
Takecare.
